"This Is Acting" is the seventh studio album by Australian singer-songwriter Sia. It was released on January 29, 2016 by Inertia, Monkey Puzzle and RCA Records. The album consists mainly of songs written by Sia for other pop artists that were not included on her albums. Sia described writing songs for others as "acting", hence the title This Is Acting".

 

Despite spawning moderate hits like "Alive," "Move Your Body," "Unstoppable" and "The Greatest" and a smash hit "Cheap Thrills." Why is this album never mentioned and rarely referenced? I personally find it an amazing album, but both the gp and the ATRL seem to forget about its existence, why?

It's not really unique to This Is Acting - Sia's big singles are always way more remembered than her albums as a whole. Her Top 10 most popular songs on Spotify right now are a weird mix of random collaborations, Christmas songs, LSD singles and her career-defining singles (plus Unstoppable at #1 because of its TikTok resurgence).

The album had some gems like Bird Set Free and Unstoppable but overall it was kinda a step down in quality for her and she never really put out anything good since imo. I find myself returning to 1000 Forms of Fear more, you can listen to it from start to finish

Not when Unstoppable is literally charting and being played hard by HAC as we speak 6 years after its release.

I mean it lacks artistic direction and that’s intentional because they’re just rejected songs initially pitched to A-List pop stars. Cheap Thrills was huge and Sia knows how to craft a good pop hit but she’s never really been an album artist, even before her break.

Forgotten? The opposite has happened. With Unstoppable the era is still going; it’s the era that refuses to die.

That song was a big hit back in 2016. It went top 5 everywhere except in the US which is Sia's weakest market (yet it still peaked at #18 i think). Probably bigger than Elastic Heart too.

 

Also it's not forgotten. Bird Set Free, Unstoppable and Cheap Thrills are very remembered and all 3 have great numbers and daily streams. I'd say it's one of the few pop albums from 2015/2016/2017 still going strong.

 

That being said it kinda sucks. I only use Reaper and Sweet Design.

Sia was gross at that time (maybe she still is, idk). She was like the female Shia LeBeouf, which is an association you DO NOT want to have, and her obsession with Maddie Ziegler was creepy. That whole video and image she was portraying was creepy and weird and gross. Yuck.
