Grammy nominated -> Grammyless

 

Coming from the folky, slightly psych-pop classic-rock Rainbow, there is no way she thought putting out trashy pop music (with horrible mixing) was a good idea. I do like the album though.

I still like the song but the Lover album is so good I hated that it's tainted by that lead single.

Classic example, I know, but it's infamous for a reason. After returning to the GP's good graces following "Delicate" 's radio success and a phenomenal stadium tour to her name, Taylor Swift had the world in her hands again and could make any song a hit, but despite an album filled with excellent pop tunes, she chose arguably two of the worst songs in her entire career to represent the project, effectively killing her radio presence for good.

 

An utter disservice to her songwriting talents, with "You Need To Calm Down" in particular having embarrassing lyricism and an awkwardly tone deaf tackling of a serious issue. Thank goodness for "folklore" and "evermore" ?

I did stop being a fan, sadly  Not only she released the worst album I could imagine, but her personality has changed so much, don't you think? I liked Ancient Dreams, but it didn't make me take my stan card back, and I didn't go to her show this year

Yeah, same for me. I just got completely uninterested in Marina's output after L+F. I listened to Ancient Dreams once and I liked it, but never really returned to it. I think it would've worked much better as a follow-up to FROOT.

So u disagree with YN and mentioned Malibu as a success case but u think Rare with the #1 LYTLM was senseless? Interesting… 

 

anyway, i agree that Rare album as a release was bad executed, but Younger Now was 100% worse as it stats shows.

I get what u’re saying but it was such a drastic change just cuz of a relationship. If u think about She Is Coming being her first mainstream (MC&HDP was free) release after Bangerz it would’ve made way more sense.  Even if not sonically her attitude, vibe, aesthetic. It would’ve been a change that would’ve made sense! 

 

i think it flopped exactly cuz it was a drastic senseless change if u think about a career without Liam marriage  

 

it wasnt senseless personal-wise but the Younger now attitude was very senseless career-wise.

Everything Katy perry has done after her SB performance/ sans NRO 

with Prince there are so many (in the 80s) but lets go:

-only releasing 4 singles from Purple Rain, the era could have went on longer therefore selling more copies 

-releasing an album so soon after Purple Rain and not promoting or releasing a single are it at all

-directing Under The Cherry Moon himself 

-Releasing If I Was Your Girlfriend as a second single 

-Releasing Sign O' The Times as a double album making it not as accessible to the GP

-Not touring Sign O' The Times in the U.S. losing most of his audience there

-Posing naked on the LoveSexy album cover alienating his audience even more

-Releasing LoveSexy as one continuous loop after than cutting the songs up since CDs were new & skipping songs were the big thing then

There are popgirls that gradually start becoming less successful but she literally killed her career and sadly I see no signs of her recovering.
