Leighton Meester: MPG that got away?

Featured Replies

No, something about her doesn’t look like a pop star

And the name Leighton Meester isn’t good or catchy enough to make it big

Yep, her part in this is so good :weeps:

anyway, Hearstrings is a good album

It is crazy to me how the label paid for a huge ass album with peak RedOne and other A Listers on the production and the shelved it because STL flopped? Those songs she recorded were not released by someone else so it is no like they were sold, they should have released it and at list make some money back?

MPG? No.
But she could be an amazing independent successful artist making music and touring her main source of $$$.

I’m still waiting for UO to make a vinyl of her album as it’s not and never was available worldwide. It’s the only chance to support her music legally (excluding streaming Heartstrings MV on YouTube). Adding to that it would be veeeery cheap for UO to buy the rights as she’s not the MPG and she and her label would be happy to get any money from it.

lmao. no.

STL is bad and the chorus shows what a non-catchy voice she had. its dead

I used to overplay „Your Love’s a Drug”, but no. She lacked talent and charisma.

Nah, she is talented. Her Heartstring album has some amazing songs.

how can you say she's not talented when she's self-written her album Heartstrings

ot: acting was her main focus, i guess

she's iconic in "good girls go bad" and could've collected a few pop hits but i don't think MPG.

her unreleased pop songs (front cut, body control, thrillseeker) are 10/10 pop ANTHEMS, i really wish that album would have seen the light of day

but i agree her independent music is much more "her", heartstrings is a great album

Idk she's one of those artists that I can't separate from their one defining role.

I cannot look at her and not see Blair Waldorf nnn :deadbanana: it's a mess cause I watch these videos and that's the first thing that comes to my mind and I cringe because it is out of character  for Blair :ahh:

I honestly think that Blair Waldorf is almost like playing Jesus or something were people get extremely attached to the character and can’t separate the real person from it.

Blair was probably the most iconic female character for millennials so it’s really hard for her to have other bigger roles or a music career because of the impact of the character.

Prob the opposite of most people but I've actually always really liked Somebody to Love, unlike her other pop single(s)/leaks from that time

Don't know about the MPG thing but Heartstrings is still one of my most illegally played albums :alexz:

Her pop career had bops but Heartstrings is one of the best albums of all time, she is an indie girl through and through

No. She doesn't have the voice, moves or charisma to be a pop star. Most of the people who cared about her then were Gossip Girl fans, not the GP. It was just a CW show like Riverdale that never received high viewership.

Apparently they were awful. She and her label approached Jay Sean for a collaboration when "Down" and "Do You Remember" were smashing 2009 so they recorded one. According to one of the producers/writers from Orange Factory Music that worked on the song, it was SO bad that Jay insisted on shelving it even though Leighton wanted it (and that's saying a lot since he sold out to make EDM songs). The production team had the same situation with Priyanka Chopra and Ashley Tisdale. Most demos get shelved.
