Alanis had a bigger peak with Jagged Little Pill being one of the best selling albums of all time. However Alanis failed to get any more hit eras. She declined immediately. 
 

Avril had the biggest debut of the 2000s with Let Go. And followed it up with a string of smash eras and record breaks across 2002-2011. 
 

Avril managed a resurgence this year with Love Sux while Alanis has failed to re emerge at any point. 
 

So overall whos more iconic?

but Avril is more global and had more hits i think

Huh? I’m a huge Avril stan. Many here can testify to that so no shade but this is fan fiction.

 

Sure she might be getting more attention than her last era but she still bomb hard. 

I’m pretty sure everybody thinks that Alanis is the bigger and more respected artist.

This. Alanis never had to sink to Avril’s lows of being an opening act 20 years into her career  

 

Pretty sure that Alanis’s Jagged Little Pill has alone has outsold almost all if not all of Avril’s entire career combined

 Not necessarily a fair comparison, since Alanis’ major label debut was in 1995, so only seven years in, and URS was her follow-up to Supposed Former.

Also Alanis can still tour arenas in 2022 without being an opening act, so Alanis is bigger artist by demand as well

They are around the same.

 

Avril opening to MGK it’s a massive management mistake but it doesn’t erase her legacy. She has several classics and was monster album seller in the 00s.

 

Both had a monster peak most artists could dream of.

And Alanis opened for Avril's tour in 2004  . Anyway, i don't know why Avril did that but she has a WW areana tour by herself
