What’s weird about Beyoncé (or her fans, I guess) is that it’s not that she’s been on “break”, but that the projects she releases seemingly don’t connect with the general public. It’s always confusing to me when I see her fans and people on social media beg for a “comeback” when she has had a joint album, and also “The Gift” (which is basically just another Beyoncé album) alongside a documentary + film project for that. People act as if 2016 was the last time she was “active” a la Rihanna but she’s still very much a working musician lol. Hell she did an Oscars performance a few months ago for a new song, that again didn’t connect with people. I do think she is “over” when it comes to mainstream/GP success, unless something major like a divorce happens, but in terms of acclaim and awards I think she’ll always keep getting those. Her goddess persona is a double-edged sword, it’s made her appear like she’s above all + that equals anything she touches becoming acclaim and getting awards, but at the same time I think it has isolated general audiences.

Black Is King came a year after The Gift came out. She hasn't been on a Rihanna level break, but her career moves since 2016 have been incredibly lowkey besides Coachella/Homecoming and we saw how massive those were.

She didn't acknowledge Be Alive until the Oscars. Not a single post anywhere, not a single mention of it on any sort of media blitz.

I think this is why everyone feels like she is on a break and it feels intentional on her part. When she comes back with her next studio album its going to be huge.

Nobody cared about her side projects because they were precisely that, just side projects not meant to smash

her next album will do good, I see it doing like Kendrick’s comeback, heavily acclaimed and very successful, but people will call it an underperformance just cause it didn’t do 600k like Lemonade

her tour will be a success, and she’ll have another #1 album, nothing to worry about :cm:

No, she is OVER.

GP dont care about her anymore.

Her next project will be her further destruction.

Artists like Beyoncé don’t need to rebound, no one gets hits forever (especially woman) she has a legacy, her album will do fine, and her tour will be massive.

spill it

does any artist call any of their work "side projects" ?

dua lipa made club future nostalgia during the pandemic and it was clearly a side project, but she obviously never called it a "side project"

stop being so dense to get a kii

I can't see her having a big hit again. She will obviously create buzz and receive acclaim with whatever she comes out with, but I think the GP has moved on from a Beyoncé world.

The problem is she's really alienated herself over the last decade and has made 0 effort to connect with newer audiences. Even older and more established acts like Madonna and Mariah have more social media presence and have songs that go viral on TikTok. :rip:

I somewhat agree.

I do think it has been beneficial to help her escape getting “cancelled”.

Beyonce has been one of the few artists to avoid major controversy (outside of DC breakup).  It’s pretty remarkable she’s lasted this long.

Her being less available might’ve helped.  Just another way to look at it…:michael:

I mean eds collab album was a side project that ppl dragged for flopping :michael: (which it didn’t btw)

If she drops Jay z and start dating an A lister actor, her Bennifer moment is guaranteed, when it comes to music, she will avoid singles success, she wants that Album of the year award, and for some reason she is taking that approach, to be taken seriously, Beck just releases and thats it, Adele the same.

So?

I also don’t recall Gaga calling Hold my Hand a side project, or Ariana calling her involvement in Don’t Look Up a side project, or Taylor calling Beatiful ghosts a side project, but we all know they are because they’re not full solo projects that they actually promote/label as studio albums

Rebound to her IASF days no. Even her surprise releases are played out. ASIB was supposed to be her re invention but that went the wrong way for her so honestly no. Maybe she can keep remixing already made hits and piggy back off them tho

A remix album mainly being remixed by producers is the definition of a side project and it’s not the same thing as someone traveling to a foreign country with their entire family for weeks to record new music and film music videos for each song.  :gaycat6:

Homecoming did well, just depends on the music she's releasing

i think shes over but mainly because of fake buttocks and overall old person image.

she quite literally called The Gift a passion project lmao

i think once she releases her own solo projects she will start hitting again

and i mean a solo album and not a soundtrack or a joint album with hubby

???

Rebound from what? Let's wait for another actual solo era first. Beyoncé doesn't do anything small she either has something special planned for her next release or she isn't gonna release anything at all :michael:

So true, she should be going in her Vietnamese era and reinvent herself.

She will be forty something during her next era and undeniably lost sales and popularity since Beyonce and that is being lenient. Her comeback, acclaimed  album Beyonce struggled to sell 2 million copies before streaming and wasn’t Lemonade only at like 1.1 million prior to streaming? That was flopping for Beyonces status even if she only sold 3 million in the US during her peak between BDay and I Am. Streaming is a young person’s game so she is going to have a difficult time there like most of her peers, See Adele. Her next album will go platinum but I don’t think it will have any longevity or big hit singles and will undoubtedly start the end of her commercial success  inevitably.
