8.2M digital copies aren't enough for you, because it doesn't have a billion free YouTube views?

Lots of 80-90s Diva Classics aren't doing really well on streaming. For example, The Power of Love (118M), Greatest Love of All (129M) and even Hero (192M).

at classics from the 20th century. They basically only rack up “impressive” streaming stats if they have excellent playlisting, go viral on social media, have a big “moment” in a film / trailer, or if they have an exceptionally strong legacy (ie: Don’t Stop Believing).

Exactly :rip:

"Abcxyz is not a classic because it has unimpressive recurrent Spotify daily stream on 17 May 2022". Imagine saying that :rip:

it literally has over 500 million YouTube views, and nearly 400 million streams on spotify?

It's song of the decade in the biggest market WW...and it doesn't reach 1b streams with 2 of the biggest streaming platforms together.

One Sweet Day is even worse tbh...

Seriously? BOMT 505m streams spotify + 716M streams youtube. These are amazing numbers for a 1998 song!

This is true. The standard for the older pop girls can't exactly be compared with that of those from the 00's, just like the standard for the girls from the 00's can't exactly be compared with that of those from the 10's (though the difference isn't as extreme in that case), and so on.

That being said, even when we account for this, Janet's streaming numbers have always been the worst by a mile in terms of the bigger MPGs of that era. The fact that it took her until 2022 to get a single track to cross 100M on Spotify and her most watched video of a song on any of her albums is at 28M views on YouTube is just... :deadbanana2: But it's kinda understandable seeing as what the SBHT did to her career and the fact that her team doesn't seem to be doing as much to keep her legacy alive like her peers are. :katie:

People saying Britney when BOMT is literally the second most streamed solo female song on Spotify after AIWFCIY. Then there's Toxic of course. Oops has amazing stats too for a 2000 song.

Her 3 undeniable classics are doing great. (And Gimme More is joining them soon.)

OT: Xtina's early "classics" come to mind.

Most classics from artists who were big in the 70s-00s have poor stats. Times were different lol.

Britney only has 1 classic and that’s Toxic. Toxic streams still haven’t even passed 800m streams which makes her one of the only pop girls without a song passed that point; not good tbh.

Mariah's, Britney's, Beyonce's "classics" streams are VERY underwhelming.

Threads like this that position classics along streaming numbers don't actually consider what being classic means.

A classic song/album/artist is one whose work still stands the test of time and is still considered to be of quality. It does not mean "still popular" although that can be a factor in its status.

I'd argue that the great majority of certified classic songs have terrible streams when comparing them to streaming hits.

I mean what's the most streamed pre-1980s song? Is it an impressive number? And if so, how many are like that?

Is this supposed to be impressive?

So what's impressive to you then?

Please tell us. We are dying to know.

I'm shocked that "Heaven is a Place on Earth" has only 19M views on YouTube. :rip:

Beyonce's "Listen" - it's everywhere due to the singing competitions and everyone would've probably listened to it at this point

Spotify - 106M

Youtube: Beyonce's live version 28M, Karaoke video 27M :rip:

I mean, it wasn't a hit single when it was released. I'm shocked it got that many.

are you not tired, you've been trolling britney for 10 years :rip:

Britney stans deems every Britney single as a classic when most have horrendous streams :lmao:

This is mainly because her team did not fully release the songs as singles. Thats why her album sales are so high. Middle of her career she had the radio ban when the hot 100 was radio. End of her career, she was in a conservatorship and a zombie. Her stats make sense tbh.

Britney's 3 classics have good streams, all three have passed the 500 million which is quite impresive since one is from 1998, the other from 2000 and the other from 2004 so go and throw shade somewhere else...
