Britney, Xtina and Madonna's classics are doing so poorly, its shocking :rip:

When did they debut ?

Songs by Madonna and Janet. I don’t personally consider Janet an icon or any of that sort but she had her moment back then but nobody is checking for her work nowadays. Madonna was heading in that direction too until recently when she started getting better recurrent views and streams

Janet is definitely an icon, she’s just local which is why her streams are so bad.

Janet is most definitely an icon.

It's just that the younger generation doesn't know much about her since she was blacklisted in 2004 and has largely been quiet ever since. To put her success and subsequent blacklisting into perspective, of the singles she charted on the Hot 100, she landed 28 consecutive Top 30 hits, and only 2 of them were below #10. She still holds the record for most consecutive Top Ten hits for a female artist on the Hot 100 (18).

Only when she was blacklisted did she flop. The single released at the time of the Super Bowl had HUGE airplay and even gained in popularity after the half-time show, until she was blacklisted and the song peaked at #45.

As for Janet's icon status, there would be no Britney as we know her if it were not for Janet's iconic impact. The choreography, the style of vocals, the sex kitten sensuality, even the clothing is all inherited and repackaged from Janet's brand. She is without a doubt one of the most important, impactful and iconic popstars of all time.

The obsession to call Janet local instead of looking at actual facts:

YouTube

- Majority of her music videos were and are STILL not available to stream on YouTube globally, her biggest hit Together Again is not available

- Hundreds of fan uploads have been deleted over the years causing Janet to lose millions and millions of streams

- While other artists are remastering their videos to 4K, Janet's incompetent team is still uploading dusty looking VHS rips (as recent as this year)

Spotify

- Absolutely abysmal playlisting

- None of her 80s hits have any support on the platform, not even one is added to the All Out 80s playlist.

Many of her hits were not even available to stream on Spotify, AM until recently:

Runaway (#3 US / #6 UK / #8 AUS) - only made available in 2020

(still no music video on YouTube)

The Best Things In Life Are Free - her biggest hit in Australia and the UK (#2 in both regions), was only made available in 2021 and it's not even the version released Internationally. :deadbanana4:

STOP ERASING BLACK LEGENDS!  Racism and sexism stopped her recurrent.

But she is thankfully rebranding.

She was actually pretty global in the 90s she wasnt number 1 everywhere but touxhing top 5 in a lot of countries....UK stayed robbing her...Virgin was just disastrous with their overseas marketing. I feel if she had signed with something like Sony or stayed with A&M she would have faired better. But to be as rnb as she was in the 90s she did very well regardless.

Also overseas (primarily Europe) were do damn far up MJs ass it took them longer to warm up to her.  Til this day many can't let go she is MJ sister. And based on her documentary seems she lost some major endorsements that maybe would have catapulted her even bigger (i.e the coca cola deal) but Mj sister hindered her career there as well. Blessing and curse.

Beyonce's "Listen" - it's everywhere due to the singing competitions and everyone would've probably listened to it at this point

Spotify - 106M

Youtube: Beyonce's live version 28M, Karaoke video 27M :rip:

Hmmm it was a flop, it's from 2006 and has 106M, how's that bad? :rip:

how is "Listen" not a classic :rip: It's not just popular and trashy, it's popular with acclaims.

That part was not related to your post but for the thread in general. Hence the barrier : ----------

But thx, gave me time to fix that awful grammar mistake, I was going for singular at the beginning.

Britney only has 1 classic and that’s Toxic. Toxic streams still haven’t even passed 800m streams which makes her one of the only pop girls without a song passed that point; not good tbh.

Oh? Xtina has a solo song that passed 800m streams?

got you haha, i thought you're talking about "Listen" :giraffe:

anyway, after your comment, i went to check and my fave song "Dangerously In Love" has like 56M on Spotify :rip: Listen is more global tho which is why i expected it to have much more than 100M. I mean, its Youtube Karaoke video has gotta be in the top 50 most popular Karaoke video on YouTube.

Y’all are not cute ignoring Janet’s legacy cut it out losers

I find 56M OK, somehow DIL, which was never a single, is popular. Plus it is in two albums : DIL and DC's Survivor so two versions and split streams.

I hope she goes back to performing it eventually.

The Power of Love (118M), Greatest Love of All (129M) and even Hero (192M).

Those are great streams for songs so old. I don't know if they're classics but they are still popular despite being released in the 90's.

The older the song, the more it fades in memory and the less the impulse to listen to it.

Some old songs are popular because they're kept alive by movies, TV shows, biopics etc.

It's fashion and beauty song..it gets recurring play when it fits that theme.  Stop trying to erase legacy. Yall are so damn tired on here with that ****.

Madonna is LEGEND AND QUEEN. So what if people ain't streaming it 24/7 like it came out yesterday at the time it did. It was THAT SONG.

They try to erase everyone's legacy on here...it's pitiful.

Sheryl Crow, Jewel, Garbage, Hole and Alanis Morissette all got eaten up by true 90s legends like No Doubt and The Cranberries

My Heart Will Go On *only* has 383M on Spotify. While that's obviously pretty good, I've always been shocked that it doesn't have more considering just how mammoth it was back then and how it always gets positioned as like one of the biggest pop songs of all-time.

Quite a few of Madge's older hits have weak streams too. Music (56M), Cherish (22M) Open Your Heart, Live to Tell, Express Yourself, Borderline, Die Another Day, etc. are all in the 30s/40s and the list goes on. I wouldn't say these are terrible stats and obviously she has multiple remembered hits, but we all know that these don't match the standards for what people call classics or remembered on here (especially by her own stans in regards to other artists).

Who on Earth considers those classics tho (minus maybe Express Yourself)? :deadbanana2:

Madonna has several bigger songs that are actual classics: Like A Virgin, Material Girl, Like a Prayer, Vogue, Hung Up, La Isla Bonita...
