BTS new song is absolutely tragic. Their inability of making good songs is embarassing especially knowing that their label mates TXT and Enhypen keep releasing top notch music :katie:

with regards to BTS's first day, I think what happened is that because it's not an English-language single, their fans stopped pushing so hard

it's actually a personal theory I have about Kpop artists releasing English-language music lol. when Kpop artists release music in English, they receive outsized returns on digital services because their fans interpret it as their push for a North American and European hit (9/10 times it usually is a push for such a hit). I'll use Twice's singles' debut positions on the weekly Global Spotify chart as examples:

Alcohol-Free: #80 with 7 994 476 streams

The Feels: #57 with 9 255 118 streams

Scientist: #195 with 5 630 331 streams

unfortunately the problem with my theory is that my sample size is very small :toofunny3: but to me it makes sense. Butter, Dynamite, and Permission to Dance were BTS's big attempts at scooping Grammys, VMA's, EMA's, etc. by switching into English—the predominant language on global streaming charts—and releasing what could basically be boiled down to American radio bait.

the fact that they're seeing half the returns they saw with Butter in the first 24 hours either tells me the fanbase is demoralised or they're just not pushing as hard because it's not an English-language single to promote internationally for awards and charts

which is funny because said fanbase acts very pick-me about how "everyone else listens to noise" and how their faves make "meaningful music" but as soon as they release a song that isn't a daytime news anthem…

A lot of truth here :toofunny2:

There was also a bit of pushback from Korean fans who were mad about waiting 2 years for only 3 new songs and old bsides from a very controversial producer being added to the album. I didn’t think their “boycott” would have much impact since sales are still very high but maybe it has. Time will tell.

Overall an anthology/‘best of’ album was a bad idea especially after a 2 year hiatus. Had there been a full album released this week and an anthology album a few months later, fans wouldn’t be as disappointed.

what's funny is that they can create an all original album but they didnt :biblio:

YG has like one messy group. Meanwhile:

Kris Wu = convicted rapist

Siwon = murderer

Taeyong = scammer and bully

Giselle = racist

Irene = a crazy person

Mind you, none of these people are on the same group.

Giselle = racist

The way y’all really made up that fake narrative that she mouthed the n-word when we had video proof of her not mouthing anything and pushed her to the point where she apologized. It’s just crazy how sick some of y’all are to have this much hate for teenage girls. Like genuinely sick :biblio:

Alcohol Free looked great, but I guess it was partly because the song wasn’t crazy upbeat so it didn’t need that much crazy sets or props.
JYP really needs to step it up tho

It was probably one of their best videos actually. They definitely need to just explore more concepts to be able to diversify their videography. The sets of AF were some of their best

so just watched this now

I do think the hate Giselle gets is unjustified a lot of the times, considering some people stan idols who are less talented than her and did way worse but that one video that zooms in her mouth clearly shows she said it :rip: non-americans do not have an understanding of the history of that word so it's not like she should be forever called a racist since she acknowledged it and apologized.

She didn’t say anything. At worst, she mouthed it :skull:

And her mouth didn’t move after the “Ni-“ so I’m still not sure how people have convinced themselves she “clearly said it”

Oh well, the ridiculous hates she gets over that dumb idiocy makes me want to support her more

Omg Yuna looked so hot today :WAP: not sure how I feel about blonde Nyong yet, it's kinda washing her out

I mean she said it, that’s why she apologized lol. I guess it was a lesson, and she will probably not say it again. I wouldn’t say she’s racist, she’s definitely not nct members who keep making colorist jokes, and said ignorant things many times but never got called out (minus Taeyong)
