I'm diving into Mariah's discography and my god, the QUALITY   I've always loved the big hits but I had no idea how good her albums were

  • I honestly thought she'd never release new music again

I'm sorry but I did laugh

Honey is an instant gem which took me by my wig and tugged it hard,

Butterfly is such a beautiful track which I suppose was written for herself after her release from Sing Sing and that creepy groomer she married. Great harmonies, beautiful harmonies. With that said, Marina and the Chipmunks outsold, sorry x

My All is the type of cheesy balladslop she loves to write and this tim, girl, I LIVED! Finally, a production that elevated it to it's fullest potential. Possibly my favourite AC ballad by Mariah (favourite overall is still The Wind).

Do I need to say much about The Roof (Back in Time) (When I feel the need) (Mariah's Version) (from the vault)? Easily my favourite from the first listen, so expressive, full of yearning and desire. A classic, the very definition.

Fourth of July (or Underneath the stars II) has great production and let me breathe for a moment before

Breakdown came in, and I was mesmerised by the instrumental and the harmonies once again. The song itself, I think it will be a grower.

I liked Babydoll and Close my Eyes, but I need a second listen to pay more attention to her lyrics for sure.

Whenever you call is the first miss for me, but the production for The Beautiful Ones made up instantly on the next track 🤭 (still need to listen to lyrics)

Outside is the type of Mariah ballad I need to listen a lot until I get it, same with Looking In.

Overall my favourite Mariah album until now!

Ps. I listened to as many remixes as I could, the one @#Beautiful recommended stood out far from the rest. Thank you, darling 💙

I really love this TikTok about Breakdown specifically. Her mind...

Also, I always have a hard time deciding my all-time favourite Moo song but Outside is the one I settle on as the answer most frequently. It'll creep up on you @Démodé!

I think The Roof is usually the instant fave from first time or more casual listeners because the vibe from the Shook Ones sample is just too goated. I kinda have a bone to pick with people saying it's her most trip hop because well she doesn't need to touch Trip Hop when she already has the original Hip Hop! But it's not entirely wrong as aesthetic evaluation because it's based primarily on Herbie Hancock and Quincy Jones samples and Jazz + Hip Hop is very Trip Hop. And I get people wanting to hear more of that particular kind of sound from her

Fourth of July will probably always be my fave because it's just so insanely plush and heady

Breakdown would be my pick for greatest artistic achievement from the album though, it deserves way more appreciation for being one of the most outstanding examples of rap singing by a pop artist and a precursor before the style really became mainstream. She's emulating the highly stylized and unique melodic flow of Bone Thugs n Harmony which ended up being a perfect fit for her. Like to not just have one great rap verse but write a whole song where she goes toe to toe with them in terms of lyrical creativity, flow, rhyme schemes, etc. is insane, especially keeping in mind this is the decade where she was still very much the AC ballad head girl in charge. And then the latter half of the song where breaks down in a different style of vocal arrangements... It's gotta be the most ambitious and experimental song on the album and I think that opinion is supplemented by my fave anecdote of the entire album which is Mariah getting too high off a weed brownie in the evening after she recorded the song and getting paranoid that she sounded crazy and was doing too much

Yesss I found it

22:30

One of these days, if there's a potsho, I'm going to tell the this. It includes brownies, It includes say what.

Brownies by myself. No, that session was a complete hazes like when we were all together in the session, but I laid my vocals down first, so by the time they heard the song, it already had that you know, had the it had that whole thing, and they were they were it was clear that I was inspired by their flow and everything. So so when I recorded my vocals, so I went to Florida and it was a whole thing with the brownies and whatever. And then and I will get into greater detail at one at some point, But when I listened back to it, because I you know, for my phot it would just be like, okay, browniees. And my assistant at that time was like Queen of brownies, and so she did give me the brownies. And then I'm at this restaurant in Florida, after I did the whole day of vocal like doing my backgrounds, doing the vocals, layering them, putting it down, you know, laying out kind of like the parts. I thought it would be cool for the guys, and then they did that thing on top of it and their own thing to it. But I listened back to it afterwards, after I got in the car. After like I got a paranoid moment, like people in the restaurant started recognizing me, going, oh, okay, okay, can we take a picture with you? And I was like, had the brownie? So I'm like I still felt like my high school self, and I was like, why do they want to take a picture with me? What? Why? What is this? Because I just weren't used to the whole brownie thing, cause I was very never doing that. And then I'm like, okay, let's get out of here. So I get in the car and I put it on and I heard how kind of like how fast I was singing, and I said to myself, what in the hell is this? Like this is no what did I do? I hate this? I don't know not that I hate it.

Like, I know, so anyway, I loved it after I finished it, but when I read listened back to what after the brownie thing, I thought, yeah, I thought I thought I had wasted a session and that was horrible. But anyway, after the recovery, which is a whole other story, Q tip is involved to be a phone opening, but wow, after that and I'm deliberately being evasive because I have to tell the story of detail at some point. But then they laid there when we got so cut to back at the head factory in New York. A complete and total haze with those guys. But I love working with them, and they you know, they could hear that there was they had inspired the whole thing. So it was. It was. It's still one of my favorites, and I appreciate you.

Probably a bad transcription but I'm not typing all that out
