Oh don't worry, most of their faves have upcoming film projects, be it soundtracks, directorial debuts or biopics. We will be sure to book first page seats and multi-page residencies in those threads when they bomb into oblivion and unlike Ga, they will NEVER be able to cross over successfully to the film industry either   :ryan3:

Can't wait for the kiki sis!

For awhile now I've felt like her acting career could end up similar to Kidman. Not every film is great, but she consistently picks nonconventional, risky roles that together run the gambit. And similar to Kidman, I think we're seeing that her best performances won't make it to the Oscars. :lakitu:

Anyway, I really hope Gaga doesn't feel bad about how the film turned out and uses the experience to make better choices. Primarily focusing on picking better overall projects and not betting on 1 project every few years.

Precisely! so happy to hear u agree since your prob the monster with the most acting / film knowledge in our base.

Gaga's acting decisions remind me so much of Kidman. Very transformative roles yet controversial in some ways. Additionally, even their acting choices / emoting is a little similar. It can seem a little less expressive with their facial expressions but they still somehow manage to create intimacy in their close up scenes even with little facial movements. I think it's their voice? not sure. Additionally, they are both VERY feminine actresses. It's funny because Gaga's music life is really experimental and adrogynous in some ways but in her films she shows a very feminine side to herself similarly to Kidman. It's very vulnerable and soft in mant ways whereas with someone like Glen Close or Cate Blanchet they are a lot more cerebral in their acting and a lot more "intense" (especially Cate). Meryl is more boisterous and grandiose as an actress. A side I havnt seen in Gaga yet. Like a lot of Meryl's film portrays can easily translate to the stage in broadway or something...it's kinda old school in that sense. Olivia Coleman also has that element to her. So yeah out of all the acclaimed major active actresses we have now...Gaga has the most potential to charter a similar career to Kidman's. Let's just hope we get way more movies out of her now.

LBR. $140M OW worldwide SCREAMS in GLOBAL to me so let's hope it holds.

Joker: Folie à Deux kicked off in its first offshore market, Korea, today with a No. 1 start of $1.3M. Keep in mind they're benefitting from a local holiday. Korea was the lead weekend opener on Joker, which at the time was surprising given it wasn't clear how the darker elements of the film would play there. This time around, it may just be the musical factor that leads audiences to lean in. And, there's another holiday ahead this week.

I was thinking about this yesterday... what if the reason she so quickly jumped back into music was because she saw the final cut of Joker and realized she had been effectively sidelined? :eli:

I just want her to work with a female director. Two male directors in a row not knowing how to utilize her... Need someone who appreciates her talent and helps play to her strengths.

I love that she's taking a bit of a break with these cute comfy flower dresses before the LG7 aesthetic kicks in and she has to exclusively wear car parts and spikes for a few months :chick1:

THIS WEEKEND

The big release is Lionsgate's White Bird... nah, just kidding.

Anyway, it's the arrival of Joker: Folie à Deux. Joaquin Phoenix is now joined by Lady Gaga. The original Joker was a colossal success, becoming the first R-rated film to gross $1 billion and winning multiple awards. However, catching lightning twice is incredibly hard. WB also upped the budget to $200 million, even if Todd Phillips himself says that's not the case. The film already premiered in Venice, receiving polarizing reactions just like the first film. What's alarming, however, is that the pre-sales are paling in comparison to the original. Add in to the weird musical mix into an R-rated comic book movie, and it looks like the film is already guaranteed to finish below the original. It's just a matter of how low.

The big question now for the film is... will it die with a smile?

WB is claiming the budget is $200M despite Fraud Floplips claims.

1. World On A String

2. Close To You

3. Die With A Smile

4. Happy Mistake

5. Folie a Deux

6. The Joker

Anyone else create their own EP? I went as far to change the playlist cover to the alternate Harlequin album cover + named the playlist Harlequin, and threw DWAS in there. The fact that were also getting the LG7 Lead oh Gaga:WAP:

we need her to work with AUTEURS

we don't have to worry about Box Office while also gaining more acclaim and credibility :celestial6:

I think she should avoid these types of blockbusters for a while. She's a draw but she's not so big of a draw that she can prevent a massive budget movie like this from flopping even if it's bad. She was one of the main reasons HOG didn't flop she needs to keep doing smaller and mid budget oscar bait movies until she wins one. Then she can go back to the blockbusters.

I'm kinda mad that WB let Todd Phillips make this just because he had one hit. He's a terrible director, the should have taken the idea and given it to someone competent.

my alarm bells were ringing a tiny bit when I looked up Todd's filmography and noticed he hadn't directed any movie since Joker. He took a 5 year gap which isnt unheard of for directors and script writers and stuff but not usually after their first acclaimed movie. His previous works were all bro / straight man comedies. He didn't sharpen his skills in the time between and didn't have a creative burst right after Joker's success which was a little alarming to me.
