Dance pop was considered uncool when Gaga debuted too. It didn’t stop The Fame from smashing.

But The Fame IS a great album, with smart songwriting and catchy hooks…

something Chrlma lacked

And why can't she be universally acclaimed? She has always been acclaimed :michael: I would understand your comment if we were talking about Katy Perry, for example, whose albums have always been mixed/panned.

There’s Madonna fans who consistently give her releases negative reviews. It’s been documented. I can’t remember the publication, but they had a writer who wrote a negative review of everything Gaga did.

Listening to that inteview with will.i.am made me feel like we trash him a bit too hard. Yeah his musical output isn't always consistent or phenomenal, but he seems like a genuine cheerleader for Gaga. They're also clearly friends if they had a FOUR-HOUR lunch just to talk about creativity ddddd

My theory is they are rehab therapy mates. :celestial5:

Chroma had that too? Not every great album with smart songwriting and catchy hooks will smash.

Of course it did. It was praised to heaven and back for lyricism (and a bunch of other things too). This person’s first language isn’t English (therefore their judgement skills

on songwriting in English by one of the best songwriters in history is funny to say the least) and you won’t find a respectable reviewer who claimed what he was claiming so just ignore it. There literally no point in arguing with the wall.

I've only ever heard this from gay music stans in niche pop spaces, largely as a way to discredit dance artists their cognitive biases can't stand (and especially Gaga.)

Dance pop has thrived since the 70s and it's ironic that you're using Troye Sivan as an example of "alt pop" when his album definitely has dance pop and benefited from the recent revival of house and disco, both of which influenced dance pop. :rip:

Maybe let go of the delusion that Gaga is ever going to intentionally appease trend-chasing tweens on Twitter.

I don’t understand why u are mad but it is true that dance pop is losing it’s light since Billie came up. FN was only exception. And yes, Troye Sivan is more like dance pop than alt pop.
but trend of dance pop has gone just look at Ava Max, Kim Petras’s last studio album.

Dance pop has been on the decline long before Billie lol. Rap is really what led to its decline.

Okay? I don’t trust Gaga to make a forward thinking rock album in 2024. I hope she keeps it more electronic, she’s always more edgy and boundary pushing in electro-pop compared to jazz and rock.

I mean we're talking about Gaga, she's always taking inspiration from different genres to come up with something unique/exciting (except in Chromatica where she didn't participate at all in the production), I think you need to trust her more, if she makes a rock album and she's also part of the production she's not gonna give you a boring/basic rock album, she's gonna add elements from other genres to make it different :giraffe:

Here reading y’all fighting about dance and rock when the real enemy is Joanne

It’s literally not. Dance music, house music is just as old as any other cult music genre and is very respected amongst musicians ww. Dance pop, a basic dance pop is a totally different thing. Also, music genres are going through phases every other year, they fade and come back.

Chromatica smashed in its opening, the timing and lack of promo just killed its longevity. People will always want dance pop from Gaga as long as it's good, which Chroma was evidenced by its multiple hits and critical acclaim.

The good thing about Chromatica having a mid-sized/okay-ish commercial performance is LG7 won't have a tremendously high bar to clear. :giraffe:

Right. As long as she won’t deliver another snoozefest like the good poor auntie Joanne, we’re safe. Still love it tho.

What if I said that Joanne's production was more interesting and exciting than Chromavirus?

Poker Face (Scream-o version)

off topic – but #1 thing i miss is when she made minor changes to the single’s production to give a unique vibe.

- Just Dance (Marc Jacobs Ballad Vers)

- Poker Face (Johnathan Ross Rock Vers)

- Love Game (MMVA Vers)

- Paparazzi (SNL Vers)

- Dance In The Dark (Brit Awards Vers)

- Alejandro (American Idol Vers)

- Born This Way (India After Party Vers)

i feel like her “changes” today are giving a ballad vers or flexing her vocals. idk if im making sense. :deadbanana2:

Her recent viral songs are literally all her early dance pop songs, people are clearly here for it. All she needs to do is to modernize her early sound. And the most well received album track of Chromatica by the GP was 911, that song was straight out of The Fame.
