That daily mail article is riddled with incorrect info. It says Gaga was shooting in New York for weeks leading to her Oscar performance, when in reality she was shooting in LA. They also claim Gaga only decided to perform 48 hours before the show, but the producers themselves said Gaga called them up on Thursday, 3.5 days before the Oscars. Idk.

Though on Cleopatra, I just don't think she should do it. Aside from the fact that her casting as a white woman would open up a can of worms, it's honestly never been that interesting of an acting role? She's a big, lavish figure that seemingly no one knows what to do with. Gags should prioritize strong scripts and curating a catalog anyway imo.

Cleopatra was a white woman so there shouldn’t be any issues with her castin besides american twitter users who have no idea of the world’s history and facts. She should ABSOLUTELY take that role and do her thing without looking at the unnecessarily negativity from uneducated people.

It’s not just about ethnicity, it’s also an issue of nationality. Gaga will get a huge amount of backlash for taking a role of an Egyptian as an American. Didn’t you guys see how people reacted to her playing an Italian? This’ll be that on steroids. Plus the role is cursed, it never seems to turn out well for those who play Cleopatra. 

JFAD is going to be more controversial than Cleopatra. The first Joker movie divided audiences. Not everyone is going to love and support it like ASIB.

Cleopatra was Greek/Macedonian by nationality, not Egyptian.

Yeah I'm not really believing that DailyMail article nnn, but I think some of it will end up being correct

 

re: Cleopatra, I was open to the idea of Gaga playing her some years ago because it would be a serve but I'd rather see her play something else now tbh. The character itself isn't that exciting and it's hard to come up with a good script. There have been 5465465 movies about Cleopatra and only one of them was good imo. That's excluding the ancestry debate/mess.

I’ve always wanted Gaga to star in a Disney movie. She would be perfect as the witch Eglantine in a Bedknobs and Broomsticks remake, now that she is getting older. It has the campy and theatrical musical storyline. It would be a nice change as well since she has only done adult movies so far

Y'all need to move on from the Cleopatra idea. She's enjoying a lot of goodwill with the GP these days and is seen as a box office draw by the industry. There's no reason to risk it with a role that's fated to be divisive and a project that comes with a ton of financial risk. Let's face it - who cares that much about Cleopatra anyway? The zeitgeist has moved way past flashy historical epics with little substance.

I think we can let go the convo anyway because it still is not sure if they're gonna do that movie, let alone if they're gonna ask Gaga to do it, the Denis Villeneuve one, because the other is with Gal Gadot and it's gonna be a very different movie (more GP friendly), whereas the Villeneuve one is supposed to be a dark political erotic drama.

 

However they might never ask her anyway for that role, that is why we can let the convo go, but if somehow the studio and that director ask her, I strongly doubt she would refuse a juicy role like that and to work with that director.

 

At the end of the day every movie is always a risk and there will always be somebody complaining.

 

Recent rumors were saying that Zendaya is rumored to be starred on that which makes sense since she worked with him on 'Dune'.
