Yeah I stan Joanne hard but it absolutely has its flaws too. I just think people do too much.

 

I believe the album would have been better without BloodPop's late involvement for starters 

 

I want Bloodpop to stay away from whatever Gaga does next. His production was a weak point on Chromatica.

Bloodpop ruined Joanne and he almost ruined Chromatica but thankfully he was smart enough to bring BURNS and allowed Madeon to come to make the album one of Gaga's best, but it could've easily been her second worst album if Bloodp*p was in charge of everything production-wise.

 

 

 

If the album was instead called Diamond Heart and the 'dead aunt' narrative was relegated just to Joanne as an album track, it wouldn't get nearly as much **** as it does. Fax.

The “dead aunt” thing is so weird to me. Gaga published Joanne’s poem in the album booklet of TF, and even said she views herself as living out Joanne’s life for her since she couldn’t back in the day. Diamond Heart opens the album from Gaga’s perspective at 19 because Joanne died at 19, and Gaga was 19 when she started calling herself Gaga. The album references 70s music because that was the time Joanne was alive. The criticism is just low IQ.

I still prefer DH as an album title but yeah, referring to it as "dead aunt" in a pejorative way is... a choice.

after the Super Bowl, launching the video she did but not an AM exclusive and perform it a the GRAMMYs instead of that Metallica performance

 

Fourth single - Dancin In Circles (April 2017)

we know John Wayne wouldn't have smashed or anything and DIC might have tanked but give it a cute release after Coachella to get that "summer" song

 

Fifth single - Perfect Illusion (August 2017)

no smash here but a cute send off as the song still deserves to shine tbh

 

Sixth single - Joanne (Where Do You Think You're Going) (January 2018)

also no intent to make it a hit but a future Grammy winning song

 

overall I think A-Yo could have done a cute top 10 debut and would have been a good entry to the Joanne era, MR would have been the ballad she would push like she did anyway, John Wayne to bring back some of her early fans to the esthetic which would translate into DIC, PI to close the era as it is before Joanne WDYTYG is launched as final goodbye to the album and GRAMMY bait for 2019

If LG7 isn't produced by Gesaffelstein, Boys Noize and Benny Benassi, she can retire fully from pop music. Give us that European underground filthy record.

She figured it out with that one. "Grigio Girls" is also solid. "Sinner's Prayer" is great, but that's a Father John Misty cover.

Agree. Joanne is really her worst album. And true that I feel Gaga is even more honest with TF, BTW or ARTPOP than Joanne...

I agree but I also don't agree cause A-YO is a really basic song and if it had been released as the first single it would've made a big part of the fan base kind of give up in this era---yeah I think a top 10 debut would have happened but at what price. Everything released from Joanne would've tanked so 6 singles out of it is kinda crazy lol that's like half of the album.

 

I feel like Dancin In Circles could have been a great lead single but not for the album Joanne

Joanne was all about womanhood. Songs like Hey Girl and Grigio Girls highlighting healthy friendships between woman. It was made for 30 year old woman with a kid in one hand and a drink in the other

Your complaints about Joanne just make it look like you don’t like it because you don’t understand it. It’s a very layered concept and it increased her popularity with certain targeted North American audiences.

Telephone (a rejected Britney Spears demo) suddenly being about the dark side of fame, please. Same goes for Chromatica being a "fictional planet ruled by kindness" when the songs don't reflect that concept at all. The way she literally recycled this idea from the BTW video but no one talks about it.

I do understand the concept and I do like some of the songs, I was just stanning Sinner's Prayer. My issue is the fact that it was really obvious that she couldn't relate to that woman she had in mind for the record at all, it felt so far away from her that every time she spoke about it it felt like her ASIB interviews, trying to sell an "authentic" "real me!!" story. I'm not saying her serving alien, a vapid blonde or a hyper-sexual popstar obsessed with horror is "the real Gaga!!" but there's an effortless execution to them that makes a huge difference imo. The Joanne era did have some hits and misses, but it just could've been executed better.

Chromatica is another story cause that's post 2015 and we know she didn't even wanna make that record. She kinda got inseminated in vitro by Bloodpop.
