Am I in the minority that doesn't think Standing on the Sun should be released? It's not really that song. It's a mid-tier Sia track, worked beautifully for the commercial but says almost absolutely nothing lyrically and the Mr. Vegas version is enough.

 

I'd rather all the focus be on Grown Woman, a song that was actually part of the BEYONCÉ visual album.

I really don't care for the version on Platinum Edition so maybe just silently swapping it out would be a good compromise.

Let's be real. None of the Sia-for-Beyoncé tracks are that good.

 

Pretty Hurts is the best of the bunch but still has an inherently cheesy quality that not even Halo has, Standing on the Sun is peppy but ultimately generic as if AI wrote it, Rise Up is cute but sounds straight-to-DVD.

 

Which is why the old "Sia is locked in Beyoncé's basement" joke is so ... unfunny. Literally nothing Sia has written Beyoncé is of any consequence whatsoever to her career, let alone added to her list of hits.

I see your point (though I stanned Be Alive, not to mention that's not associated to her own project so a different thing completely) but in regards to Pretty Hurts, at least there is an inherent message that anchors itself into the project: the search for perfection, the shedding of expectations, the price of fame, even. That has a far better reason for its release than Standing on the Sun which is... just kind of a generic song that doesn't really go anywhere or say anything which would be fine if the lyrics were altogether more clever or the melody was super infectious.

 

I mean even a song like Check on It as surface-silly as it is, has a core message to relay.

 

And I know we are talking about a bonus, ten-year-later release but still, Grown Woman actually adds something lyrically to the story of the album.

haha ok yes I knew I was forgetting one of them, and this is indeed the best, probably because it has the most inherently "Beyoncé" qualities about it... like even just calling someone/something "beautiful" feels like a core Beyoncé phrase.

Anyway, Beyoncé seems to agree with me regarding SOTS or she'd have filmed/released a music video for it like she did for Grown Woman, and/or released it alongside Grown Woman for the anniversary. Well, she may as yet do that, but still I'll maintain there is a preference for one over the other based on the above.

 

I will say no more about it as I see a lot of you are fans of it... but wow, I guess this is what it's like to hold a negative opinion and have optimism hive say "no!"

I get the point, personally I don't connect with the song, like most Sia's tracks tbh but I think if some want it, she could release it. 

 

I saw some people say earlier that they would have preferred SOTS or Donk over it, people have their preferences. Since I'm elated that I got GW, which is genuinely one of my fave B's songs, I hope others could have that too. Plus, it's nostalgic of that era and the teasing before ST dropped. 

How could anyone dislike SOTS with these heavenly vocals

I have never listened to this before. This is quite good. It's much better than the one in the commercial imo. I just didn't connect with that one tbh.

I agree. I never understood the hype of that song. We don't need it.
