What's the consensus on Start Over, I Was Here and Rather Die Young?

Start Over - dated production, but tolerable

I Was Here - horrid song

Rather Die Young - cute

They, together with BTINH, are the weakest on 4sus.

Kinda agree, tho Rather Die Young deserves a raise for that heavenly bridge alone

I've always hated I Was Here. I love Start Over and Rather Die Young.

The thing about BTINH from a story perspective is...

...it is quite on brand for Beyoncé insofar as kiss-off songs go, hailing back to Bug-A-Boo and Bills, Bills, Bills, to Me, Myself, and I and then Irreplaceable and to an extent...If I Were A Boy but what is "off" about it is that none of these songs are holding onto this "I'm better without you" emotion after what we can assume is many years, and this better-than-you-bitterness while she's telling us she's "so over" him feels almost unlikeable. The brand of Beyoncé is one of graciousness, wisdom, growth. Taunting a decade-old ex is none of those things, and since the song gives us no indication of why she may feel this way besides citing "lies", it's harder to imagine the situation. In the past she's clearly outlined every way a man has bugged her, or used all her money, or was controlled by a man or was cheating on her wearing the stuff she bought him, etc. and this made the sass she sang feel earned and thrilling, justified. BTINH is just a bit dry and doesn't key into actual emotions.

All in all, there are far stronger breakup songs in her catalogue, let alone the album and it would have made a cute bonus track with Schoolin' Life moving up to the main tracklist.

But we needed a song that fit that energy of “I’m better off without you”. She gave us that and one day when you break it off you will be grateful :cm:

Even Bey herself dislikes BTINH :dies:

Anyhow, I wonder if the reason why LUUM got deleted from streaming services was due to the fact that it's actually a cover. What a pity though, that song is a masterpiece.

A 10/10 when it comes to production, vocals and musical composition.

If she added Lay Up Under Me and A Woman Like Me to Spotify I could die happy

imo that energy isn't earned through the storytelling. I'm not saying she's lying (lol) but the very matter-of-fact "you suck" lyrics could have used more lines that paint the picture of WHY she's better off without him... not just "you showed your ass and I saw the real you!"... it's all a bit petty feeling, far more P!nk than Beyoncé, if that makes sense.

I’m very neutral on BTINH nowadays it’s just an ok song to me now. Definitely on the weaker side of 4. I think I Was Here is the true abomination of 4. And my hatred for it was solidified when Diane Warren made those shady remarks about Bey.

Thique & I'm That Girl had grown on me  :dancehall: AUIYM is the only song that hasn't grown on me yet.

I really want an AUIYM acapella.

In fact I want the whole album both as acapellas and instrumentals. The things you discover that way, and the sense it makes in making a dance album available in this format, encouraging DJs to work with it...

and just like Pink Flopping.... we will coming back  for Shakira when her time comes

Renny back to the 4M Daily CLUB!!!!!

BMS about to surpass 300M! good for a supposed flop girl

These BTINH takes are… yikes especially when you consider it being one of the few songs that saved the 4 era commercially

Anyone else not able to listen to All Up In Your Mind without immediately seeing a transition into Pretty Hurts/Haunted mashup from the VMAs?

BTINH is the weakest song on 4 because the production is watered down Sasha Fierce-era generic. The OG version >

Thank goodness. This sounds like a fake remix.
