Imagine if she were to do Africa and add some (assuming she doesn’t have any) songs from TG to the setlist. They’d get the best of the best. 

Speaking of which, why does TG have more replay value than Lemonade and ST for me? It’s weird. I consider ST to be better (sonically), but like, if I’m trying to dance around my apartment and clean, TG fits the bill on a heavier note. 

Do you guys think the Dubai stage design was a hint to what we should expect for RWT? Kinda like how Revel was hint for Mrs Carter World Tour

I know she's done lifts/cranes for Drunk In Love before, but after how viral it went, there's no way she doesn't do a lift in the circular stage in the middle of CR for it, right?

Because it's an AMAZING album. 

 

I sound like a broken record, but it's one of the main releases that opened my eyes to how fickle even fans are. The flop sales (Bey's fault for odd promo) soured the desire to associate with it, so it's given the "Mufasa music" edit. Which is such a stupid analogy given how much Afrobeats was bulldozing its way into the mainstream at the time and even moreso after. It was fresh and sonically bold for Bey (as a US mainstream act). 

 

Outside of not being a "full" Bey album, it's up there with her best work IMO. In an expanded capacity, it really could have been her 2019/2020 "full-length" follow-up to Lemonade...with the exact same material and her on every song. Would have been a thematic continuation of her Black power celebration from Lemonade and sonically as fresh/different (for her) as Rennie ended up being. 

 

It's easily better than Lem (which I personally feel a lot of the stans give too much and conflate an epic ERA with an epic album...which are two related but different things). ST only beats it because there's more Bey on it. 

 

All that said, Bey delivering with Ren (and yielding the commercial and critical results) has taken some of the sting off the mishandling TG episode for me, but there will forever be a feeling of "what if" for me personally.

 I have already seen that comment from you regarding 4 as well and it also doesn’t ring true to my experience since it’s one of Bey’s most liked albums by fans. The way people jumped on Satellites’ remark here proves it. 
 

There was also nothing epic about the Lemonade’s era, certainly not numbers wise or anything else, the songs were not available, the videos were private on YTB, all the performances were bar from the internet and a few stuck on Tidal, no interviews or words from her about how way the music came to be or was created (like ST), the music was taken hostage and more. The tour was epic but short, most people couldn’t go and we didn’t even get a DVD of said tour. It is her worst era international fans’ satisfaction wise. Saying otherwise is just revisionism. I, personally think it is her best album because I think it is her best album. I guess the critics also were all swayed by the « epic era ».

I really wonder what some of you will say about Renaissance in 6 years.

Also a lot don’t « give  »anything to Lemonade. It’s trashed, called overrated, no replay value by 90% of stans here mostly because it is pulling low streams so people who don’t like it use it as a reason. 
 

Just the way many fans are suddenly so vocal about their love for AHAP now because of streams. Although in this case, I sincerely think it’s genuine.

The people, both here and on Twitter, definitely gave The Gift the cold shoulder.

 

It's not scoffed at in hindsight like IASF (for example) and does seem to be getting an increasingly favorable "hidden gem" edit these days, but it WAS greeted by really distracting debate (diaspora wars between Afro and Black US Twitter) not to mention those viral "don't want no more Mufasa music from B7" tweets which had hundred thousands of likes/RTs. I'm not making up the latter, it was literally...a thing. We all discussed it here, with many co-signing during the speculation period about "B7" and the hoped-for sound. 

 

There's an air of indifference to TG, even from stans, that annoys me given how good it is.

 

Many were screaming for uptempos when bops such as My Power, Water, Find Your Way Back and Mood 4 Eva were right there. Similarly, the girls wanted sing-a-long-song commercial music and we had the likes of Brown Skin Girl. As a body of work and as songs standalone, I'd say it was all given a tepid response. 

 

Bey deffo has to shoulder a lot of the blame because of the weird/missing promo not to mention the visual album coming a whole year later. So, in a way, I guess 

there are slight holes in the "disliked by stans" argument (being all-encompassing) because above all there was clearly an awareness issue. 

 

BUT...

 

You pointing out my stance on 4 is the *very* reason I think there's still something to my overall point about TG and stans (including Bey stans) purposefully disassociating from material that doesn't do well commercially. 

 

Granted TG had an awareness issue, 4 didn't. She promoted the hell out of it, underperformed, and it WAS given the red-headed stepchild treatment from many (both GP and corners of the fandom). Especially when she bounced back with ST (which beyond being game-changing was essentially celebrated as a "return to form" which is ironic as 4 sh*ts on ST musically IMO).  Indeed, before Bey SPAMMED tf out of songs like RTW and Love on Top, the reception and perception of 4 was much different in the early years after its release.

 

It's all rather fascinating IMO, because it goes to show that the optics, accepted narrative and commercial success of an era largely inform the reception of the music at the center of it.

 

You have projects like 4 and TG that weren't powered by huge success, so are broadly deemed "career dips" and you have ish like Lemonade celebrated to the highest level because of the ascension she had critically and as an agent for social justice when the material at its core was "good" but not a patch on a lot of what she released before and definitely not a patch on what came after like TG and most definitely Ren.
