Especially if people don't listen to their albums or recent stuff, Rih is more cool. Beyonce is high camp/glam

It's come to the point that since they don't honestly believe she is indeed talentless no one does otherwhise she wouldn't be the touring force she is, she has to be "overrated". It makes them sleep better at night.

It's quite funny because if you were to ask them to articulate on what 'overrated' means and why she is overrated I doubt any of them would be able to make a valid argument.

Bey vs Rih has been a thing since the dawn of time however Anti was a pivoting moment in her career where she was taken more seriously as an artist, became more unreachable after, and her networth 10x with Fenty. Suddenly the perception of Rihanna changed like Bey’s did after self-titled. The girl used to drop albums like candy and was perceived to be on the same level as Katy.

 

I’ve noticed Rih was used more often to discredit Bey and diminish her talent/career because they think she’s overrated and find the “Queen” deity persona offputting. Bey’s career was built off of feminism and blackness, polarizing themes that straight men HATE. Rih’s that relatable cool girl that they gravitate to and has the broader appeal with the music she makes, even Bey gets more capitalist essays thrown at her despite having a lower net worth. It’s clear there’s bias.  

AHAP is trying to get that 3rd single spot, I see.

I do love that her fanbase is mostly queer and women though. I’d argue that I’ve seen it with both Black and White men, and that it’s probably tied to Jay-Z. Bey’s basically been a claimed woman her whole solo career. Even when she was sensual/sexual I think straight men saw her as an extension of Jay-Z. You’d hear a lot of comments from dudes saying “damn how did Jay drop the ball with Bey” or “I’d wife up Bey,” but less about her individual sexuality like you get with someone like Rih, who has this kind of free spirit aura to her. 
 

I do think Bey’s brand becoming more political, and her being more of a recluse in terms of public engagement also played a role as well.

The female empowerment was a turn off for the average straight man, and then add in the release of Bow Down men AND women started to believe this narrative of her being a cocky “untouchable goddess” and Lemonade was the final nail in the coffin. It’s only natural that they would flock to Rih and compare them to one another because of the Jay affiliation and her cool “relatable” persona. That people can’t fathom the idea of black women coexisting in a space

Something I’ve also noticed is that Bey’s fans are more flamboyant than Rih’s. At least in my experience. My best friend is a Rihanna fan and anytime we go out, I’m the one out here doing ALL the choreo to any Beyoncé song and just all around putting on a show lol. It’s pretty common for the Beyhive to go all out like that. He just does his head bops and sways when Rih comes on because he’s too “cool and masc” to do much else. People who also loathe Bey are typically rhythmically challenged and the type to sing “Sweet Caroline” at the top of their lungs in a bar.

They always try to humble Bey and act like Jay was responsible for her endeavors. Or her father despite her severing ties with him after IASF. It’s really just misogyny and racism towards black women. They hate that she has it all and they feel threatened by the confidence and adoration she has. 

Beyoncé's most vitriolic haters (not including stan wars) can broadly be grouped into the following categories:

misogynistic black men

pick me girls

 

And I am perfectly fine with that. It tells me she's doing something right.

The simple fact is that people are intimidated by excellence because it bruises their ego. It emphasizes their insecurities and inadequacies. For a Black woman to be the greatest entertainer in the world who is dedicated to constant improvement burns people up because society says Black women should be grateful for the bare minimum. No one likes the true champion, yet everyone loves the underdog. I love that Bey has so many people bothered because it proves who is TRULY victorious. With that being said, I can’t wait until the visuals drop to put the final nail in the coffin and end these ho*s.
