It's hardly a coincidence that four of the five longest-reigning Hot 100 No. 1s released since 2019 have been country or country-hybrid hits: "Old Town Road" — 19 weeks "A Bar Song (Tipsy)" — 19 weeks "Last Night" — 16 weeks "As It Was" — 15 weeks "Choosin' Texas" — 14 weeks and counting "luther" — 13 weeks "The Box" — 11 weeks "The Fate of Ophelia," "Ordinary" and "Butter" — 10 weeks Country has an obvious Hot 100 advantage: a huge radio base, easier crossover to pop radio and a massive streaming audience. Country radio also lets hits die at a glacial pace, so they linger forever. "Old Town Road" and "A Bar Song" had enough pop and hip-hop appeal to go global. "Last Night" and "Choosin' Texas" wish they had that kind of reach.
