Yes! I used to sing a lot when I was a child and recently rejoined a choir and have started taking singing lessons. I prefer classical stuff mostly. I don't think I'll ever write or release original music though.

Oh, that's really cool. What type of classical music? I'm also a classical girlie, mostly Wagner at the moment

I'm doing Handel's Messiah (basic *****) at the moment, but did some Mozart, Bach, Purcell and Bruckner in our last concert. We've also done some more contemporary stuff recently. I really liked a couple of them - The Promise of Living by Aaron Copeland and The Music of Silliness by Elaine Hagenburg. I always like it when the tenors get to sing the tune for a bit.

I've been singing in public since I was 5, played in punk bands throughout my adolescence and I've done soundtrack songs for independent movies, albums, etc. I'm an indie diva.

But I would never promote my art here lmao I think it's kinda tacky and tryhard to overpromote.

Wait that's super cute Do you sing solo or just the choral parts atm?

Messiah is fun. I sang the alto solo (He Shall Feed his Flock) at some rando Xmas event a few years. I think I also tried learning I Know My Redeemer Liveth too but the G-sharps were too much for me

I'm not really a Mozart fan but I love Bach (St Matthew Passion alto solo is one of my dream roles) and Purcell (Dido & Aeneas )

Ah thank you! I used to do solo stuff back in my treble days but have literally only been back singing for about 6 months. I'm going to start working on some solo stuff with my singing teacher, I'd love to do that again. I need to get a bit better at singing through my passaggio before I'd feel comfortable being so exposed tho lol.

Do you sing tenor at the moment? The tenor passagio is indeed a rough one. I tend to sing very light in my chest voice (think pre-war Germanic/Nordic school), otherwise transitioning to head voice is difficult and I feel weighed down. I've found that as long you keep the tone bright it will still project even if lightened (imagine singing everything on an Italian 'a' instead of an English 'ay'). I sing mostly contralto tho so slightly different context.

I guess I could be considered a professional, I am classically trained and have a contract with an opera company (North England) but so far only been an understudy in actual productions. Usually, they want an older and more experienced voice for the type of repertoire I'm doing. I have sung recitals though and learned a few full character roles.

Yeah I do sing tenor and thanks for the tip! I think my main problem at the moment is I have to keep reminding myself to relax and stop holding so much tension in my face when I sing. Also to strengthen my diaphragm more.

Wow yeah you're definitely a professional then. Love a fellow British girlie too! I'm sure the main roles will come with time, like you say, sounds like an age thing more than anything.

oh i forgot i do NOT sing but i do try to write. i keep almost everything ive written since 2016

ive done what i consider to be completed song lyrics but it could always be rewritten or revisited at any time.

i did lose a bit of what ive written when i got banned (The Fallen Angel) on LanaBoards
