I don't think Max suddenly forgot how to write a hit. It feels more like he's been trapped in the same creative software update for 10 years.

Old Max Martin songs sounded effortless. You'd hear the chorus once and suddenly you were legally obligated to sing it for the next six months.

Now a lot of his work feels like it was engineered by a committee that studied the molecular structure of a hit song but forgot to include the actual fun.

The irony is that he spent two decades influencing pop music so successfully that modern pop became saturated with people copying Max Martin... including Max Martin.

When your greatest competitor is your own legacy, that's a tough chart battle to win.

the gag is that Max had little involvement in Ariana's new single but nevertheless he did produce some of Ariana's best songs in eternal sunshine and Taylor's best lead since willow

He always sucked.

He doesn't have the hunger anymore. He knows that his songs will be carried by the big artist in the charts and he gets paid regardless, whether if the single flops or not

After 4 decades in the business, he's still about to create #1 hit songs and masterpiece with so many artists.

Also he adapts, switch genres... Yet he is still able to create earworm melodies and catchy productions.
