So Gaga lost AOTY to Bad Bunny last night. I feel like Mayhem was her biggest chance to win AOTY in a while, it was the closest she's ever been to her old self, it had her biggest hit yet and Gagamania is all in rage lately. The last time she had such an opportunity was Born This Way and The fame/The Fame Monster. What's the little push Gaga needs to win AOTY ? Do you think she will ever win ?

I can actually see this happening. It would be amazing if she could win one for a pop album but she really needs a great producer who can help her edit her material in a better way. The Fame Monster would have been a deserving winner, but her work after that hasn't held the same standard.

The Hive used to have a million reasons () for why Beyoncè would never win AOTY too and then it happened. Gaga still has plenty time in the future.

The fixation on AOTY as if overall Grammy wins don't matter more, of which she has 16 already and will most certainly reach the 20+ region, which will make her the 3rd most awarded woman of all time.

Not everybody can have that…

maybe she should get michael to beg and plead and call out the academy every year until they give her a pity AOTY, that seems to work for some people

I'll answer earnestly.

I think this was by far her best chance. And it was only a solid chance. Bad Bunny was always the artist to beat here. And Kendrick had good odds, too. She had a successful album, a return to form, an acclaimed tour, a moderate but very acclaimed hit, and a narrative.

It gets harder as artists age. Mayhem already felt like her Confessions. Maybe she has more in her and is entering a new creative renaissance, but her output has always been uneven. And the threshold will be higher and more difficult as time goes on.

I've seen people saying Gaga has the "deserving" narrative that Bey had and I just don't think that's true. Beyonce had self-titled, Lemonade, and Renaissance which were all AOTY worthy and at least 2/3 straight up should've won. Born This Way lost to 21 but would've probably lost to something else at the time. Joanne, ARTPOP, and Chromatica were never in contention with the former two being as far out of it as you can be. TFM was deserving but up against fierce competition and that was nearly 20 years ago.

This year felt like her most deserving victory and best chance. She's only had three albums really in the convo and two of those were released over 15 years ago. Nothing was even close to a true, undeniable snub like some of Bey's. I don't think the academy feels she is owed an AOTY. And that's no shade, it's an extremely difficult award to win. By far the hardest. Many legends don't have one.

I'd never count Gaga out of anything. People always get eggs when they do. But I think the odds are pretty slim.

She can hold her head high, though. 16 Grammys and Mayhem and Abracadabra are both Grammy award winning! A fantastic era for her.

If she had committed to the mission statement of MAYHEM and not tacked on DWAS and those other snooze fest songs at the end... but for real though she's probably going to win for some boring genre switch-up/glorified tribute album later in her career.

she'll definitely never get one for a pop album, especially not for the kind of pop she's doing these days. it's like wanting very poppy albums like Brat or Renaissance to win aoty, sure they are more than qualified and would be very deserving but that's simply not how the grammys think nor the kind of albums they award. i agree on TFM, if such an innovative, concise and acclaimed pop record like that couldn't win her a GF grammy i don't think any of her future pop albums ever will.

some boring jazz album featuring elton john or beige geezer rock will have much better chances
