Even Brazil said NO

According to ChartMasters, it sold 9.5 million in the US, and a whopping 12.8 million worldwide. which equals to 74% of its sales coming from good old Murica

What went wrong with Legend X's debut, and why couldn't it match the global success of Britney and the Backstreet Boys?

the most shocking part is that this album got certified 8x Platinum in the year 2000 and it took 24 years just to be certified 9x Platinum in 2024.

It's not diamond

Teen pop and was overshadowed by Britney to the time. Very forgettable debut too. I mean Janet is forgettable to the gp but remains very influential among black audiences and the industry.

Genie in a Bottle was a hit everywhere, but it's because outside of North America she peaked with her second era. Her debut was too derivative of Britney's style - she found herself and stood out with Stripped. Also, at the time European certification thresholds for albums were set so that multi-Platinum was a very rare occurrence. You had to sell 100k to go Platinum in Sweden, in a country of 9 million at the time.

Literally Mariah... album also 9xP, but 4 #1's and also Best New Act win. Xtina followed the Mariah success template to the T with her first 2 albums... but they deviate with album 3... while Mariah peaked with album #3, #4 and #5 (28m, 15m and 22m) Xtina's career fizzled out. When Mariah was in her downfall era, you wouldn't believe how cocky the Xtina stans on pop forums were... insulting her left, right and centre... What a time.

(Maybe if she had the single version of Come on Over Baby (All I Want is You)) on this album from the beginning!)

You really think it's sold another million since 2024? I have the Luminate figures and it's nowhere near Diamond

They spent all payola in the U.S + international audiences just wanted Britney or create their own local Britney

They shipped the album to Brazil but it got shipped back

Sometimes I wonder-i ruminate if having a Latino name hurt her chances of becoming bigger in Europe and the UK.
Back in 1999, the doors for Latino music were only just opening with Livin' la Vida Loca. There was still a lot of stigma around Latino artists.
The U.S. industry favored pushing a "proper" white artist—Britney—for the planet over the Latina, Christina, even though Xtina actually looked whiter than Britney.

But i lowkey feel like that was not the situation cause i listened her album & Britney debut and Brit debut is catchier

Christina's debut was so big she crossed over to the Latin market and won Latin GRAMMYs and had #1 hits in Spanish, iktr
