So I saw a comment on Tiktok (or it was a tweet, I forgot) on the topic of movies that place in space, saying that they're all the same ****, and I would be lying if I said I didn't agree... I recently watched "Passengers" with my cousin in her condo's mini-cinema and it was definitely a movie. Basically Chris Pratt's character wakes up early, gets lonely, and instead of journaling, doomscrolling, or literally anything else, he decides to unthaw Jennifer Lawrence like she's a rotisserie chicken at Costco. And the wildest part is the movie frames it like: "awww he just wanted love " NO. That man committed cryogenic war crimes. And then of course Jennifer's character wakes up thinking it's a glitch, starts falling for him, and we the audience have to sit there knowing this man essentially kidnapped her from her own future.

Anyway, my point being… space movies kinda all blend together at this point. It's always "ship breaking," "people lonely," or "forced vibe shift to trauma bonding," like Hollywood directors just keeps hitting copy-paste. Lowkey they all suck a little, or at least pretend they're deeper than they actually are.

So, ATRL, do you enjoy a little space movie from time to time, or do you simply refuse to indulge in something so spiritually unchic?

Yes, i do. I love a movie that shows a beautiful space, like a warm cozy space in a living room

I love space in general, so I am predisposed to love movies that involve space, yes. But just like any type of movie, there are good examples and not so good ones.

Interstellar, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Alien, Contact, and many more highlight the excellent qualities that only a space movie can provide.

Absolutely. If space is involved, it will likely end up in my list of all time favorites.

I'm looking forward to Project Hail Mary.

A zombie movie

Pixar's Elio had a super whimsy vibe which I liked. Lightyear was also cool.

I loathe space or the thought of being in space, so throwaway or super-anxiety inducing space movies are an absolute no for me. However, there are so many classic space movies that I'd happily watch/watch again like Alien, A Space Odyssey, lighter movies like ch 4-6 Star Wars, Wall-E, etc. And my husband's favorite movie is Contact which I haven't seen yet, but am excited to.

I like Barbarella, but other than that it's not my favorite genre tbh

Yes I do and if you think space movies are the same, you havent watched enough.

NOTHING tickles my brain in terms of movies quite like a good (!) space/scifi movie ... i.e. Contact, Arrival, Prometheus (I said what I said), Interstellar... All my life I've been hoping for an alien invasion and it can't come soon enough!
