You didn't miss much TBH. That's what made that era kinda weird. I loved the movie and all, but once the pre-movie press tour wrapped up, it was basically quiet while she dominated the charts. I feel like that must be what a TS era feels like these days when she's not promoting/just releases and dips.

I guess it was understandable though that she didn't want to be out there pushing the soundtrack as the main selling point when she was trying to be taken seriously as her first major acting role. The soundtrack smashing was a benefit to her great acting, not vice versa.

I did enjoy looking forward to the Spotify boosts every weekend since people would be going to the theaters though.

Now, of course, Venice pink look was ICONIC.

Honestly, I think the weirder and more left-field she goes, the better her chances are of charting well. Abracadabra isn't really "mainstream" by today's standards, yeah it's pop, but the landscape has shifted so much that I wouldn't even call it traditionally commercial. And it still peaked at #13. In the right week, something unexpected can absolutely sneak into the top 10 if the song is genuinely great...

I've always seen Chromatica as the more successful era between it and ARTPOP.

Chromatica had a #1 and a top 5, a successful tour, a Grammy win, and was an acclaimed album. It's also sold nearly as many album units as ARTPOP.

ARTPOP sold more general units and had a top 5 and an additional top 10 from a promo single. The tour did fine but is her least successful pop tour outside The Fame Ball. The album was also panned for the most part (even if unfairly).

They'll even out in the long-run, though.

I think Chromatica era was fine, and generally seen as a success or, at worse, as a blip. While ARTPOP was seen as a flop and catastrophic in terms of PR. It has a lot to do with the point in her career these eras took place of course.

That being said it's clear that ARTPOP is going to outlast Chromatica in public consciousness, judging by the discourse around it and the streams. By next era, ARTPOP will probably be doing 2x Chromatica's daily streams, and considering the latter was made for optimum streaming, it's pretty telling. So Chromatica will never outsell ARTPOP and the distance is going to cotinue to get wider in my opinion.

TFM would get a 100 today, BTW a 90, and TF an 89.

All three are now widely considered masterpieces that stood the test of time and shaped pop music for the best. All of them were undervalued when they first came out

I was a British kid studying abroad in my fourth year at American college, it might've been quiet promo wise but there was nothing like full house parties belting out Shallow and everyone talking about Gaga/Bradley/the movie for weeks. Then the SuperBowl and Oscars came around and there was nothing but praise - such a good time to be a little monster, my first impressions in America were that it wasn't overly cool to like Gaga at the time and definitely not play in public.

I think a lot of us thought we'd never get bigger hits than ASIB or a return to GAGA pop after either but here we are. Enjoy the moment, but as we know with Gaga now, there'll be plenty more.

Gaga is just held to a higher standart than Dua. If anything she releases falls short of reinventing pop music staighties go into a frenzy.

Meanwhile if Dua does a solid pop album they all lose their sh-t.

In the US, it stopped being cool to like Lady Gaga in like 2012 and never really returned until ASIB and then MAYHEM/today. We can safely say part of it as that she's "too gay" for most American men who are embarrassed to admit liking her. I mean, look at our government, it's not hard to believe I bet.

Being cool doesn't equate to sales though. There are peers of hers that are more positively seen but are selling way less or that are trendy with Gen Z/Alpha but have yet to score more than a moderate pop hit in general.
