I was one of the few Don't Call Tonight defenders when the album came out because it's production and bridge were done so well but it's lyrically kinda lazy. Thematically other Mayhem songs already covered the idea of being betrayed by a lover/your darker self (and much better) so it's also kinda redundant.

It's such an interesting song because while Mayhem doesn't need DCT at all, DCT would have been a highlight on Joanne or Chromatica.

The same happened with me although the new perspective about it being about her dad/his political views, while kinda a stretch imo, gave it a second life to me.

I believe Gaga will show up at the 2026 met gala. The devils wears Prada cast will be there to promote the new movie and the movie is being released on that time. Since Gaga is part of the film it makes sense for her to be there promoting also along with the cast. Plus the theme fits Gaga so well.

The chorus also falls flat after the pre-chorus is a legit good build-up.

It's kinda crazy how my opinions on Mayhem barely changed from the first time I heard it. DCT and Blade Of Grass are the very obvious chops, and Gaga's lack of performances through the tour show she probably has realized that (which is a great sign for LG8). Not as bad but I wasn't into The Beast either but the live arrangement definitely enhanced it a bit. I used to group LoveDrug with these but it's grown on me immensely. I was also very taken aback by HBDYWM but that had nothing to do with it's quality, and on second listen I loved it already. Other than that everything from the album ranged from good to amazing from first listen, and remains so.

Don't Call Tonight has it's moments. The pre chorus and bridge are nice and I love the idea of Gaga doing a Tina Turner style song. It's just not quite there, it needed something to elevate it. She should have swapped it with one of the bonus tracks. BOG is unfortunately necessary for DWAS to fit but it's imo the only bad song on the album. I think maybe it could work if it's runtime was cut down and it was just a little interlude type song.

Since when could you watch videos on spotify. Disease you can switch between that and the audio

The concept of being a chop that the fanbase isn't really fond off because it's the farthest thing from dark pop on the album and yet being organically one of the most streamed tracks

Don't Call Tonight is my most played from Mayhem by far and I love the interpretation that it is about Joe
