Scorpio raises valid points: If Bey dials back, the minimum we SHOULD be able to expect are live vocals. There's no way you could ever argue that she had a point in lip-syncing Flamenco. That song is neither challenging for a singer like Bey, nor damaging for her vocals.

Janet absolutely is doing what Fatima said. She lets the spectacle happen around her. And increasingly so. But, trust and believe, when that 'If' dance break hits, she punches tf in. Even now at 60. Same with the 'All for You' choreo. if we're keeping it a buck, and every body/dancer is different, one could actually argue Janet's dance style is more intricate/full-out to Bey's mix of seductive, accessible, and equally technical. So, by that yardstick, I'm not really able to give her passes.

MJ, while not the best example given what ultimately happened. But he too adapted his style as time went on. So, while he leaned heavily into the spectacle more than the all-out choreo for every single beat (especially with what was about to be This Is It), it was a given that woud absolutely body Billie Jean every time, he'd hit the Beat It crescendo, etc.

I'm not saying Bey is doing none of that, And again, I absolutely believe she would be wise to scale back in places/pockets, but there is still a show to give and an expectation of the "Beyonce' experience. So, if that knee is healed, I frankly don't want to see her sitting down for Virgo's Groove, walking up and down for BMS, or doing the bare minimum shimmy shake (at most) for her most upbeat hit in a long while: Cuff It. Like, can we be serious?

There is a world where several things (aging gracefully, scaling back, keeping up the illusion of high energy in places, and aiming for longevity) can all exist at the same time!

I kinda agree with you, but by that logic, she should only be going all out on her iconic choreo like Single Ladies, CIL, Baby Boy, Formation - we shouldn't be expecting her to do something heavy for Cuff It because it's not something known for choreo at this point.

And the lipping and not dancing - we've seen Mariah and Celine stand still and lip a song too. It really is about showmanship - nobody wants to potentially **** up, especially the women known for having immaculate voices. Nobody cares if Ciara or Janet or Britney lip because they are known for choreo, not vocals, but Beyonce is known for both and given we've seen her actually sing live and hit the 1 and the 2 in her youth, that Virgo perfectionism is kicking her ass now.

I'll never be mad at her for it. I just hope she heals enough to feel comfortable doing more.

i get her timing herself to have enough energy to do 3h long shows (which is kinda needed to feature entire new albums and still have time left to do your big classics, fan favorites, interludes and the occasional deep cut). but at least actually SING if you must sit down in a clown car. and the few time she does do dance breaks she better go all in, cause the awkward standing there while the dancers to the heavy lifting wnd the group hugging thing is getting awkward to see. either dance less and sing more, or cut down show time to 2 hours max, problem solved #wehateyoufatimarobinson

I agree with everything except the hashtag, Fatima gave her sound advice. She needs to get the perfectionism out the way and just arrange her sets to accommodate more LIVE singing and simply allow the dancers to dance. I noted at CCT especially during Diva, Formation, My House etc that she hid her lack of precision during intense choreography with blinding lights and smoke everywhere….but if you looked closely things were not as refined.

Also, I absolutely support more live musical arrangements, I am still confused that she out of her own mouth says she is not a pop star anymore yet her musical arrangements is STRICTLY mp3 instrumental and backing tracks. That I find egregious, especially for an album that was heavily live instruments. Lastly we can easily clock the lip syncing if almost EVERY show she does the same vocal performance on certain songs, no new notes, no different runs or embellishments the same placements at every show??? Any singer or musician can easily clock that.

In four years my life changed in ways I never would have imagined. My sister had a baby boy in November 2022 and now the boy can carry conversations. In summer 2023 I saw the Renaissance Tour in three different countries and the film of it three times including once with my mother who got her absolute life. In January 2024 I met the man I love, beginning the relationship I truly believe I'll be in forever. In January 2025 I quit a job I'd been at for seven years in order to spend more time with my mother who was ill. In December I lost her. The music that soundtracked all these times was Renaissance, the music that inspired it, and the music that it in turn inspired. It will always be one of the major musical works of my lifetime.

i think the wonderful thing about special albums like Rennie is the way they can soundtrack some beautiful and also intense transitions in our lives. like the album itself may not change drastically in that time (RIP original Energy with the Milkshake la las), but we do and it allows us to experience it differently over time. plus like, we get to associate all kinds of memories with it as you laid out so nicely.

like yeah, music can sometimes just be a simple little background thing, but some stuff really sticks with us and that's just really ******* cool to me. same with the sense of community it can bring; i am very grateful for the friendships i've developed over the years in these music discussion spaces!

2022 seems like eons ago but also yesterday getting old is such a ****ing trip.
