I don't really know what to expect. I feel like Katy is at a point where she isn't going to chase critical acclaim, she knows critics have never been by her side. I don't think she is chasing hits either. She is probably thankful for her best years but isn't desperately in need of a smash.

 

I'd rather have bops because that's what I personally enjoy the most but I feel like what would be the best for her is a mature power ballad or a mid-tempo song, where she can showcase some good vocals on a song that feels real, authentic, that is well written and develops about where she is mentally, how she feels about her life/career, the good and bad events she went through etc

 

Realistically even if the song is very good, Katy is kinda disliked right now so I don't expect anything to perform particularly well. At least not a high peak but maybe some good streams growing over the months. She needs to build a new image.

I honesty think it would've been smarter to wait until 2026 & build a little hype.

 

This random release is such a bad idea but let's see if quality shouldn't matter too much.

If it isn't spectacular, I dont see it doing any better than 143. Katy's reputation is… not great, so it'd take something truly amazing to get the GP back on her side. I wouldn't mind an album of bops (not produced by Dr. Luke) though.

Unless she has a major smash in her hands, which I am doubtful, she could easily turn around things. But I need to hear the song first

We're gonna have to wait and see. I do genuinely root for her success. Sure, nothing she's done since PRISM has held much of a flame to that era of her music for me, but I'd be lying if I said I hated everything she's released from 2017 until now. If she finds a way to build momentum she might get a good first week placement on the charts since the points on the chart are pretty low at the moment, but it'll get dragged under since the Xmas freeze is about to begin. I think her, her team and her labels expectations of success have clearly changed in the last 8/9 years though, so I doubt they care.

 

I'm here for it if the music is good, I guess. I saw some people in the thread assuming it's a song about being cancelled/hated and while I think that kind of lyrical substance can be interesting, that in itself might evoke more tomato throwing. I'd be more interested in hearing her sound off about her break up.

In all honesty her fans need to accept that the general public is not waiting for new Katy Perry music.

 

It would do her well to aim lower and nurture the fanbase she has instead of chasing another big hit. She's had three disasters in a row, I think it's reasonable to expect more of the same at this point.

Idk but the song title is not promising. Katy's known for her on-the-nose cheesy metaphors, so i'm sure this is gonna be some "you broke my heart and bandaids won't heal the wound" cliche, predictable, cheesy-a** writing
