The "Invisible String Theory"

Invisible String Theory

"The universe will keep two people apart until the timing is right. When you meet, there will be so many "coincidences" in the timing. If one thing had fallen out of line, you would never have crossed paths. But the universe aligns, and you will realize that everything that you went through before you met was just preparing your heart for them."

Do you believe in it? Do you have any examples of this from your own life?

Tired of this woo-woo BS.ย  Nothing happens for a reason.ย  Everything is completely random.ย  You also have less self-control over your life than you think.ย  Your emotions are completely controlled by basic instincts like avoiding hunger, pain, and lack of resources.ย  If you want to meet someone you have to leave the house.ย  They aren't just going to fall out of the sky and onto your deek.

Weirdly, I was talking about this at work today. I believe it and also believe that as part of the theory, you're destined to always come in and out of each other's life due to being "tied". I can think of a couple of people in my life where it seems almost fate that I met them and how they leave my life but will always come back for better or for worse.ย
ย

If this interests you, then have a look at the "last meeting theory". This one proposes that when someone in your life has "served their purpose" in your destiny/fate, e.g. to teach you an important life lesson, then you'll never see them again. They'll just disappear. You could both live in the same town but your paths will never cross again.ย

It doesn't make sense to me. All of your decisions led you to where you are right now.. so you can say the same about anyone you meet.ย

This take suggests ignorance. No one says a man is going to magically appear in front of you. The idea is that you will be inspired to act in the right ways in order to meet the person. You get an idea to go to the park, you are invited to an event and in spite of yourself, you decide to go, you go on a conference and bump into someone. Things like that.ย

Interesting take.ย  My theory is that there is no such thing as one single "soulmate," but rather there are 4-5 people in every major city that you would be completely compatible with, and if you are single and longing for a relationship, then you must make it your job to find one of these 4-5 people.ย  If you start this process too late, these 4-5 people will likely be taken up by someone else.ย  If you run through the 4-5 people in your own city, then you will need to move on to a new city and sift through the haystack there to find your 4-5 people.ย  If you are straight your dating pool is much larger, so there are probably more like 20-30 people in your city that you could be completely compatible with, but for gay men, the odds are stacked against us, so even 4 or 5 is probably being a little too generous.ย  In reality, it's probably more like 1 or 2 people.ย  But the invisible string theory is BS to me, because I have lived in many cities in my life, and I know that in every city I can count the guys who are compatible with me on one hand.ย  I always try to find these guys, and I don't just leave this up to some woo-woo, chance-encounter BS like "fate" or "the invisible string theory." I actively seek out these men in these cities and make sure I insert myself into situations where I can meet them.ย  If I wasn't doing that and just sitting on my arse at home, then "the invisible string theory" wouldn't even be able to play out at all.

You guys do know this originated from the red string folklore from ancient China right?

Its not like it's some recent tiktok trend or something, it's in alot of culturesย

For OP, I found my partner while I was working and he was a customer, turns out we lived 7 min from each other this whole time and if I had taken my other job offer at the time, I still would have met him asย his family lived in that neighborhood and he visited that location I was going to work at almost daily, among a lot of other random coincidences like us living in the same apartment years ago but we never ran into each other or us always frequenting the same restaurant but always at different times.

ย

Idk, I choose to look at it that way, not everyone has to but it is sweet to think about as nihilistic as I amย

I'm a spiritual but not religious person and there is definitely something.ย Call it chaos, call it the universe, call it whatever you want. But it's real, but you can only perceive it if you pay attention, otherwise you're denying something you don't know.ย

And before the science girlies try to come for me, read about Jacobo Grinberg, The Monroe Institute and quantum physicsย :ryan3:

I believe in unavoidable fate, for better and for worse. I believe in the standard take that it'll be if it's meant to be. I feel like what has come to pass has simply been fated, as in it was always going to be. It's ultimately all driven by our actions. I don't think it's predetermined, though. I think it's largely fluid, with the end result simply being fated to come to pass.

ย

It's interesting to think about one way, or another. I often think about the choices I've made in life and where I'd be in life if I just went another direction, struck up a conversation with someone in particular, stayed at my old job, met up with that one guy, etc. And that also relates to things outside of my control.

If we have this invisible string to the love of our live, we would surly also have that string with the worst people we will ever know. And I don't like the thought of that, so I'm going to say no.

Just watched this yesterday.

I dated a guy who said this to me and I believed it. We met a decade ago and I had a crush on him for so long. We met again earlier this year, it felt magnetic and he even made a playlist about me with the first song being Invisible String by Taylor Swift.ย

He dumped me 5 months later due to not feeling a "spark" anymore. Lolย
