Conversational pet peeve

Featured Replies

So I think most of us agree that being cut off in the middle of speaking sucks. But honestly what I hate more is when I'm in a one on one conversation and someone comes up, cuts me off, and then has a conversation with the person I was talking with… and they don't say or do anything. It's like I become completely irrelevant. Like yeah **** the person that cut me off, but how are you, who was just engaging with me, going to pretend I don't exist anymore. Feels like I'm just a placeholder. Like at least make eye contact with me. :rip: Can't stand ts and I straight up do an Irish goodbye idgaf

A woman at work, when imitating a conversation with someone else, she'll say, "They says" instead of saying "They said" - it's hard to really pinpoint why this annoys me. I think because it makes her sound ignorant as hell. She also insists on pronouncing "Chicago" with a hard "CHI". There are a number of quirks this woman has that bother me. :lakitu: She's 50

I also hate "Good morning". Everybody says it like it's a cordial customary thing. I don't need to be said hello to by everybody at work :biblio: a cheerful good morning greeting when it's anything but. :biblio:

- people waiting for you to finish talking just to say what they wanted to in the first place. Zero engagement or interest, just their need to be heard.

- not listening at all (a variant of the above), just talking loudly over you.

- all versions of "you seem like the kind of person that-", "you look like someone who-" under the guise of a compliment. You are just projecting whatever prejudices you already have and want to get away with it.

I hate when I talk people nod their heads and say "mhmm" after every word I say. Like why you so forced hoe.

I don't think that's controversial, that's just rudeness lmao.

EDIT: yall sjdjdjdj i think the OP was just trying to say HIS pet peeve to vent not yall list yours too :dies:

People who think they're "fashionable" and hate on everything someone wears that isn't $200+ and usually looks better than whatever tf they even wear anyways

Ppl who breathe with their mouth open. When I was in 7th grade I was sat next to a kid who always did that. I would always tell him "breathe through your nose and shut your mouth". At the end of the year he told me "hey raver look I'm breathing through my nose now" and he didn't breathe through his mouth again. It was a daily struggle but I lowkey fixed him

I hate when people walk into my office and ask if I'm busy - YES, I'm always busy. Just ask your question and skip the BS.

But what if a genuine, not backhanded compliment is followed by it :eli:

Mine is "I've never told anyone this before, but — *proceeds to trauma dump*" and then I have to pretend like I care and that I have empathy for the person when they inevitably start getting emotional.

HUNDREDS of times this has happened to me throughout my life. I never ask nor prompt it with a question. It is WEIRD.

I don't know WHAT about my energy in person gives off the vibe that makes people that I don't know at all, barely know, or even people I do know want to tell me all of their deepest traumas and darkest secrets.

I've learned to code switch and be kind about it and give good advice because I can't bring myself to be honest when someone is visibly upset, but oh my god, I literally do not care, I am not a therapist, please go hire one.

Well OP is irrelevant so :marshmallow:

Inability to stay on topic / constantly jumping from subject to subject without properly developing any single topic

Thanks

For me, I hate whenever I'm having a personal, or deeper, conversation with someone and someone else just walks up and stands there—eventually interjecting themselves into the conversation.

That's just the type of stuff that low-key makes my blood boil. Like... c42e24e9906c3ff65bcbe09cc0335a1a1df58389

It annoys me like no other when people stand in a group in high traffic areas at bars, restaurants, anywhere public where people clearly walk though there and without any self awareness just stand and talk. Move *****!

Depends on the context but all in all when they're already starting like that... :priceless:
