my genuine advice OP is to not make it into an awkward thing, i have multiple friend groups and if im dating someone i KNOW which friend groups they would vibe with and which ones would have friction/be awkward when meeting. chances are he doesn't think you'd gel well with this group of friends but thought you'd get along with the other group
