People getting married on video games, why?

Featured Replies

Why do people hold virtual weddings in games like Animal Crossing and treat them like major life milestones?

I get that stan culture has its extremes, but gaming communities take it to another level, especially when they organise full-blown virtual weddings and act like they're real. What do you think motivates this behaviour? Whatever the reason, the sincerity behind these virtual ceremonies is what really sends me.

when it's kids just playing it's not a big deal, i remember playing families on roblox, club penguin etc :rip:

but yeah among adult gamers it's always seemed very attention seeking to me. i haven't used discord since i was 19 but it used to irritate me how these e-couples would be very affectionate to each other in public channels because they wanted everyone looking at them and weighing in with "how cute!! <3". not that online dating isn't valid as an adult of course, but people in gaming circles can go about it in a very cringeworthy way

Yeah, I remember this being a thing when we were kids or early teens, but there's something weird about grown men doing this. Especially when they make a big deal out of it, from picking out clothes, to obsessing over the finer details as if they're planning an actual wedding, and then streaming the 'wedding' on Discord. It's kinda excessive.

Me and my cousins having a wedding for Action Man and Barbie tease

Because they can? 🌚

Human mind is very complicated, that's why we have fetish/kink, people who know their partner is a yandere (toxic/red flags) but they're still loving them blindly.

Love makes everyone a fool hihi

For some people their online relationships can be very real. And they are real, just like long distance relationships when your partner temporarily relocates or if you live far away from each other.

Add young naive love to the mix and you get dramatics like this. It's not for me but it's harmless imo

Girl do you know how EXPENSIVE weddings are!? :deadbanana2:

I lowkey admire this. They're saving a f*ck ton of money and it still means something to them. Marriage is marriage mamma, let them do it.

Sis, the world is dark and miserable and becoming authoritarian with evil winning.

If something silly like this brings someone joy and provides them an escape and a sense of attachment to someone in a lonely world, I'm happy for them.

I can't see how that's more deranged than endlessly arguing about spotify daily streams with strangers online over your favorite pop star and organizing mass downvoting sprees at the smallest incovenient but here we are

if you've ever played FFXIV you'd know how weird that is

Yeah, I remember a case like this from Discord. The weird thing is, both people getting married were white, but their characters or avatars looked more Asian than anything else. Is the wedding part of the game itself, or is it something players choose to do independently?

But we should let them live it's much positive for them to spend their time and energy getting married in video games rather than harassing people/being racist/sexist/gamergate types.

Some people are also just disabled or depressed  and unable to live leave the house much so they get human contact virtually.
