She's not interesting, and she confuses people. You can't claim to be a rock chick, release a very rock album, and then come back a year later with simplistic EDM.

She's over in the sense that she won't reach major success anymore, but she'll always keep her small fanbase and remain a recognized public figure.

It would take a miracle for Demi to be successful again, a miracle like Cool for the summer or Sorry not sorry, but this is not it

She has the same problem as Miley no real identity or brand. This is why Ariana and Selena do better than both because at least Ariana and Selena people know who they are and where they stand. The closest to real identity Demi had was when she did her whole rock aesthetic.

You come in every thread and say the same thing, are you a broken record. Bye

:suburban:

But he didn't lie.

She missed out on her chance to peak 2017-2020…while all the Disney ex-acts may be flopping rn, Miley for example has proved time and time again she can come back from any level of floppery lol she's gone from missing the Hot 100 completely to getting diamond hits with a billion streams like clockwork. Demi just hasn't had a "moment" since probably 2017 with her last hit

Miley is bigger than Selena music wise, especially if you compare their biggest songs

She is charting on global spotify whereas Selena is not

Selena: Asia, some parts of latin america(Mexico?), Africa(Calm down is huge there)

Miley Europe, NA, Brazil, Argentina

What identity does Selena have? She makes the most generic music of them all :rip:

Maybe but she's the Disney princess and she has that identity. When you listen to her music or watch her videos, you know exactly what to expect: easy pop and a polished image, and she sticks to that all the way through (except for the 'Fetish' era). Meanwhile, Miley and Demi are too unstable with every era to really capture a loyal audience.

To each their own but I'd prefer the unstableness and experimentation of Demi's and Miley's music over the safeness of Selena's

ironically the Fetish/Bad Liar era is when I actually found Selena the most interesting

she's been done since we entered the 2020s :sailing: the song is cute but i don't think many people, especially gen z, are intrigued by a new Demi release.

And that's a valid opinion, and I never said it was mine either. But when your popularity is fragile in terms of sales, I don't think you can afford to change your musical style with every era… It's impossible to build a loyal audience that way.

Then again, maybe Demi and her label don't care about having a huge commercial success. If she's happy making the music she loves, good for her. But honestly, I don't really buy it. To me, going back to super easy EDM like this is a clear sign they're trying to regain at least some mainstream success.

She's an idiot and has shot herself in the foot enough times publicly that no label will ever invest in trying to shove her or her music down our throats. She's a liability.

So fortunately yes the moment for her to digivolve into a MPG has long passed.

Unfortunately yes. Her "comeback single" debuting lower than Muddy Feet was not on my bingo card

Boatmates!

When you flop twice in a row, you lose a lot of your commercial viability even if the music is good. :giraffe:
My fave, Zara Larsson, is suffering from this, even though her new music is genuinely great. It's hard to regain the public's attention once you disappear from the GP's eyes.. Demi had a mid-performance era (Dancing with the Devil) and an underperformance with HOLY F**K. She really has to win the general public back.

She also lost her "cool" factor with all the messy controversies, so rebuilding goodwill is part of the challenge. Connecting with gen z-alpha
That said, people are warming up to her again.so this is a good start. Im curious about her new record.

I think the new song is fire, but it's a strong EDM-house track, and I'm not sure it fits this current musical climate.:lakitu:
As we all know, we're living in the era of disco, synthpop, country, retro, and emotionally deep bedroom pop songwriting
There have been successful electronic tracks-albums like Brat or Abracadabra, but they feel more like exceptions than the rule.

I like the song! it works as an appetizer for this new era.:gaycat2:
Personally, I think Demi should come through with a strong R&B-pop-disco or dancehall 2000s influenced track next
Her pop songs are edible, but they don't hit the same way anymore. It's a different era now. a different world to the 2010s
For commercial appeal, I'd love to see her explore a SZA–Doja Cat kind of direction.
I  personally think that should be her future lane.
URBAN DEMI.....Ariana and Miley moved from Urban Music.  So thats a good suit for her. Be the niche white-latina girl for urban pop
Synthpop-Urban-Pop and some Xperiments-The cool genres in the future

She's just past her peak. Her career has 17 years by this point and she stil has somewhat of a solid fanbase despite of not having a big push by her label

And yet if she stayed in the same line y'all would be saying 'she always does the same', 'she needs to reinvent herself' and bs like that. Some artists are just that versatile and don't care into being put into a box :giraffe:

Aww, I like Demi. If she's still releasing music and being happy, that's all I can ask for or that I otherwise care about. It's 2025, who really cares about a song topping a chart or selling a certain amount of digital copies.

I-... honestly did not expect her to debut with less than Miley's More to Lose promo single :deadbanana:

The song is great, though. I think it's time to accept that younger Gen Z and all of Gen Alpha simply don't care for the Disney trinity and that millenials and older Gen Z who used to care simply have outgrown the "mass stream/stanning" phase (good for them honestly bc what a waste of time :rip:).
