I think people are just wanting something like their old music that was merely a product of its time. But these women have really grown over the years artistically, and many are involved in the production now too, especially Ariana and Miley who are credited as producers for all their recent works. Back in the 2010s they were probably more or less fed pre-written hits by producers and had less creative control than they do now, making music they truly want to make.

She's an artist, she makes music. Creation is her job, not singing and dancing when you tell her to lmao the delusion and entitlement. And mind you she did plenty of shows in Europe and South America literally 4 years ago, it's not like she hasn't done any shows this decade.

Right because celebrities need to boast about their philanthropy…she literally just opened up a women's shelter 2 years ago and continues to promote her foundations on her socials, making a tribute to them in her Bass Persuades album pamphlet as well, you're just saying anything

Miley said last year that 2026 would see a major shift in how she operates, and that means releasing music quickly, which is one of the main reasons for her label change, as she complained about how long it took for Something Beautiful to come out. She's always said she's hated "playing the game" and wants to release music when it's still relevant to her life, while the label deals with promotion and everything else not music, which she has said she happily accomplished with this album.

If she was able to come back from Younger Now's 45k, she can honestly come back from anything. MIley's career is just built on absolutely massive moments here and there, so nothing new really with another flop.

Idk I think everyone is reading into it too much. Her main reason that she has always mentioned despite it being ignored is to stay sober and preserve her damaged vocal cords. Obviously she doesn't need to talk about this anymore, but idk I'd never be mad at an artist for not touring when I choose to willingly listen to their music and can withdraw my support at any time. Like they're literally just another human, why am I entitled to their time and effort when they probably wouldn't even let me within 100 feet of their home 💀.

If you listen to her recent Zane Lowe interview, she literally says she knows how much the labels invest in her but that with Atlantic and her new team, she feels no pressure to succeed. It's not her fault they keep investing in her music with little return lol I mean rca, Columbia, Atlantic through flops they still give her radio deals and heavy playlisting.

This conversation that she needs to retire because she flopped is so funny because she's been flopping her whole career besides a few ubiquitous hits…I mean younger now, nothing breaks like a heart, all the way through plastic hearts, flop after flop. Not to mention she released a free psychedelic record on SoundCloud after Bangerz era, arguably ruining the momentum for what would've been another successful album. She has not and will never care about the charts. But don't mistake this for what the label wants. Obviously she is a mainstream artist, and their goal is to get sales. But yall need to stop being dense because Miley even said in a recent interview she just makes the music and doesn't understand all the marketing that occurs after she submits the record. Half of these artists probably don't even know variants are being made when their socials aren't even run by them.

Need y'all to listen to Miley's last interview where she said she's aware of the big promo she gets and how she doesn't feel pressure to succeed anymore kinda hinting that she and Atlantic have a good relationship in which they basically give her legacy treatment for being Miley lol. I'm sure she'll have another "Flowers" albeit less massive in the future that will pay off all the investment. Not to mention, she's agreed to do live shows again clearly which is where a bulk of the money comes in from artists.

I'm so glad Miley's doing new things and idc if she flops into oblivion if she's making music for herself and not for the charts. Yall think just because you follow your faves for chart success that it means others do too. Before flowers Miley's last real hit was in 2013 and yet I stuck by her. After Bangerz, her biggest era, she released a free psychedelic album on SoundCloud. She has never been about chasing chart success or basic sounds. I've always admired how despite how easy it would be to do so, she chooses an alternate path, which has ultimately contributed to much of the respect she has in the industry today despite having fewer total hits than her peers, say Katy, or Taylor, or Gaga.

Mind you she worked with Shawn Everett, Molly and Alec from Alvvays, Jonathan Rado from Foxygen, Model/Actriz, Ryan Beatty, and more on her last album. Even pitchfork called her out for using indie underground producers lmao. If you're gonna criticize her at least be honest

ESV is Miley's safest album and if that's the type of music you like, formulaic predictable pop music, that's great, I'm glad you enjoy it. I love Katy's older music even though it's safe because it fits her voice and image. Miley on the other hand is known for being adventurous, experimental, and not making predictable pop sounds. Her immense vocal talent is just wasted on tracks like Flowers. I'd much prefer an artist take risks that may fall flat with critics and commercial success than to rehash the same formulas that kept them successful in their prime.

Sorry but as a katycat myself I cannot take your opinion seriously given Katy's musical output this decade bar the perfect pop song that is Never Really Over. And mind you Katy has like ONE green album on metacritic 😭. Anyway, that basic adult contemporary album (ESV) full of fillers is a dud in her discography besides Handstand and Violet Chemistry.
