Where does Miley go from here?

Featured Replies

yall are gonna make this thread for every Miley album from now on because she's already said she refuses to tour again (she had health scares on previous tours) and hates marketing/promo. she's said multiple times during this album cycle that she's happy now that she has the freedom to make the music she wants. she doesn't gaf about the numbers, tbh she probably prefers to flop so they don't make her promote anything :rip:

  • Some people talk about chart performance like miley is gonna have to go hungry now. She's fine. More fine than any of us will ever be. Enjoy the music.

Notice how her most successful records have a strong point of view and aesthetic? (Bangerz, Plastic Hearts, Endless Summer Vacation)

This one does not. But it's still a good record….

.

She doesn't have to "do" anything. She's proved herself time and time again. Regardless her talent speaks for itself and will continue to keep her relevant and successful regardless of what the charts display

It's so easy to claim that once someone starts to flop. Yet the investment in spotify and radio suggests otherwise.

That's the label's job tho. Miley is not out here sending checks to Spotify and random radio stations.

Become a touring artist and rebuild her fanbase. She's an amazing performer and she shot herself in both feet by not touring!

Given she's doesn't tour much at all, presumably she doesn't like to, so why on earth is she going to start now to "become a touring artist"?

The logic is flawed surely?

Go heavier than Plastic Hearts. I wanna see Metal/Hard Rock Miley :gaycat4:

But she can't act like gaga

Which is a good thing!

Imo, she's kinda ruined it for herself by having such inconsistent album quality and image. She went from extremely edgy/provocative and out there (Bangerz, Dead Petz) to bland snooze (that country (?) record) to cute creative repeak (She Is Coming, Plastic Hearts) to P!nk-style soccer mom blandness (ESV) and with this latest record I couldn't even bring myself to listen to it despite really liking End of the World. It's always been kinda like, "Am I supposed to be invested or just not care?" and it's just gotten exhausting at this point. :dies:

Ya'll are always so ******* dramatic. She had a flop album and it was an experimental album with several songs over 5 minutes long. It was never likely that it would perform well.

We all thought Miley was done being commercially successful since 2015 and then 8 years later she had the biggest hit of her entire career and one of the biggest songs of the century with Flowers.

She'll keep making the music she wants to make and made it clear in this promo cycle in all interviews that she never plans to promote her projects heavily again. She should keep making the music she wants and slowly build a new core base of people who genuinely vibe with this more individual sound she's making.

If she happens to get another smash like Flowers, great. We clearly know it's not out of the cards for her. But she likely won't and it's fine. She's had two #1 hits, several top ten hits, several massive eras and big cultural moments. She doesn't need more. She just needs to do what she likes to do which is make music and perform.

So when Miley announced her new album you honestly expected it to debut with less than 143 and spend one week in the top 100.

Like do you really think anyone buys this copium ?

Who tf said that? No. I didn't have any specific commercial expectation whatsoever because I don't care. From the very first two songs released from this project I knew it was never gonna do well on the charts. Anyone with ears could tell. The music isn't in alignment with what's popular today and it's very oddly mixed and takes many listens to set in.

Not everybody is as chart obsessed as you, babe. Give that time to sink in. And not "copium". Again with the dramatics :suburban:

She can do a theater residency tour like Madame X. That way she'll be comfortable performing and her fans will be happy.

miley has had flops before and comeback and i dont doubt she'd have another big hit with the right song. personally i think she's found a great sound for herself on something beautiful and its really solidified and perfected what she was experimenting with with endless summer vacation. i want her to stay in this direction. plastic hearts and bangerz were fun but of their time and younger now was a disaster. no more genre hopping.
