Axe is literally one of her best songs what is this? Very few songs are able to capture the musical feeling of falling in love as well as that song 🪓

I know it's a very loved track, but it never did anything for me. The lyrics are very good though, so this is all Antonoff's fault

ijbol remember when Solar Power had no CD bc of her climate activism - she said F the planet for this album, we cheered!

  • new track in 3 days.

  • I believe Melodrama remains her magnum opus, but Virgin sounds absolutely incredible. It's the Lorde we know, yet it also feels incredibly refreshing. In Hammer, she mentioned, "I might be born again,

Just finished the listening party a few hours ago.

For anyone who is into it, this is clearly an album that would be deeply enhanced by MDMA. I feel it would come alive and open up in an even more special way.

my highlights: Shapeshifter, Current Affairs, Broken Glass

There is such a vulnerability in this album that feels more visceral than something like Liability.

Also, I feel she's very brave in the way she doesn't go where the song may feel it typically would. It ducks, pivots and weaves almost like you're hearing parts on the wind.

The continuous presence of the "aha"s feels like the motif of the album. And I think it really speaks to how she juxtaposes very rigid verses with very free flowing sections that almost lift off on their own.

Cannot wait to listen again.

I just saw something on reddit that mentioned cello passages that kinda stood out to the poster :ryan2: did you notice some notable celli in there?

My scrobbles since 2019:

1. Melodrama 4280

2. Pure Heroine (combined) 1868

3. Solar Power (combined) 1269

Yes! Now that you mention it. I can't remember which track it was. It might have been shapeshifter.

Primarily the album is classic piano + synth driven though.

for anyone who's heard it: do we think it'll be done justice listening to it in bed at midnight or should i wait for a better time 😭

GIVE US LIVE REACTIONSSS DADDY :WAP:

Can't wait to get into it in one hour on my lunch break :duck:

if NZ uploads not 320kbps or FLAC, then DON'T listen to it.

My little comments to every unreleased song (only listened to those without the singles to get this to you quicker)

Spoiler

Shapeshifter - spoken intro is so cool, the melodies are strong and those synths that sound like strings (?) are pure earcandy

Favorite Daughter - euphoric pre-chorus, incredible melodies and the background vocals are sick, bridge is taking me somewhere. Melodrama vibes are out of this world on this one!

Current Affairs - that afrobeat (?) sample is so fun, sounds like a constant build-up, vocal layering is so intricate on here, the chill beat is amazing I really enjoy it!

Clearblue - Basically an acappella song, it's giving tortured robot in the best way

GRWM - ohhhh, this is the one! Almost feels like a subdued SOPHIE production at points

Broken Glass - playful 80s synth bouncing all over the place, a pop song, her 1989 moment

If She Could See Me Now - production is great with those cutting synths and the guitar in between. really love it!

David - slow start, picks up speed and builds into a glorious outro to the album, vocal production is INSANE!

First listen is a strong 8 or 9 for me. The album reminds me of Charlis original description of Brat. Very minimal, straight to the point, honest and raw.

Just so happy to have her back! :jonny4:
