Lorde - 'Virgin'

The rest of the album doesn't sound like the singles, but the essence is definitely there. "What Was That" is the weakest on the album. "Man of the Year" is still one of my favorites, and I believe a lot of people will change their minds on it when they hear it within the context of the album.

In conclusion, I'd say: go with an open mind, and don't skip the singles. It's her best album production-wise without a doubt, but you need to really pay attention to details on the album. The lyrics are not as deep as Melodrama. On Virgin, as she already stated, she is raw, transparent, and very graphic. She is telling exactly what she feels without thinking much about it.

WHAT DO YOU MEAN WHAT WAS THAT IS THE WEAKEST?

ELLA...... I'M NOT READY.

Would you say you should listen from front to back (first track to last track) in order?

ijbol remember when Solar Power had no CD bc of her climate activism - she said F the planet for this album, we cheered!

  • new track in 3 days.

  • I believe Melodrama remains her magnum opus, but Virgin sounds absolutely incredible. It's the Lorde we know, yet it also feels incredibly refreshing. In Hammer, she mentioned, "I might be born again,

How did it adjust your discography ranking?

For now...

1. Melodrama / Virgin (I haven't decided between these yet, but I do think Virgin has the potential to become my undeniable #1)
3. Solar Power
4. Pure Heroine

Yes, but of course this is just my opinion. I know a lot of people here hated "Man of the Year", but it has always been my favorite single.

YES!

I'm listening to Solar Power for the final time before Virgin releases and I'm getting emotional. :'( I'm excited for this new album but also bittersweet to finally let go of this era.

YES!

I KNEW IT. I lowkey hate when we get singles from artists when the album from front to back is the best way to listen.

Okay, another question, do you see any other singles and did they just play it over the speakers for y'all or did you get headphones?

"Favourite Daughter" and "Broken Glass" are single material. Most pop songs on the album alongside "What Was That" e "Hammer".

It was played over a speaker. I can't wait to hear it with my headphones on (pun intended). :WAP:

I don't have a defined top 3 just yet, but "Current Affairs", "Shapeshifter", and "David" were consensus between everyone present.

Didn't listen to any snippets but it's good to hear great things from those who have.

I think this just further proves that she should've dropped this album with no pre release singles, it's by far the best type of rollout for someone like her.

It's a new Lorde for sure, but one that we've always hoped would appear. I loved how she experimented on this album. Not only sonically, but vocally as well. She is definitely not following ANY "pop structure" rules. She never did, but on this album is pretty evident.

I was present at the same listening party. Can confirm we had to play Current Affairs and Shapeshifter twice due to the amount of gaggery

It's funny how the "Shapeshifter" snippet Lorde shared doesn't make justice to the full song

It's either gonna be very good or VERY bad but either way that means new Lorde and my body is not ready.
