I think this is a fair criticism. It ended up sounding like something you make when you're experiencing a creative burnout which is fair, considering the conditions during which she was making it.

It's very obvious that Taylor doesn't have any concepts in mind when she's writing and that's decided after the album is done. That was clear with both Showgirl and Midnights

I think that feels true maybe half the time or so for me - because at something like Tortured Poets, for instance, feels like it was all made with a particular theme, sound, and approach in mind, both halves independently and how they work together. But you're right about, at a bare minimum, her recent "pure pop" kinda albums having that feeling, and even some of their older albums feel like they have a veneer of theme and branding applied that conveniently ties things together, so I'll give you that. For Midnights it all works out as seeming like it's cut from the same cloth. Maybe part of it is that by nature, an album primarily produced by Jack leans toward sonic cohesion, while an album produced by Max focuses on different aspects of the craft, like a certain approach to the melodies and to things like compression and processing that give it all a punchy pop sound.
