Of course it's a summer album. TLGAD, seven, august (obviously), betty, and peace all have direct lyrics referencing the summer/sunny weather. No other season, month or time of year is referenced at all on the album.

I think it's time that we have the monthly all-hands about how this was actually the lead single, and someone at Republic (likely paid by The 1975's management) decided to set her up and sent the wrong song to PDs in an effort to derail Torchie

God, I love being a Swiftie. Getting to set up camp in that Apple Music thread and getting to enjoy Taylor dominating.

She truly excels at every objective measure of success. That's why people have to resort to "vibes" and whether they subjectively like her music/talent to attempt to drag her. There's truly nothing to drag when we're talking hard cold facts.

It's just so funny seeing them resort to not only personal attacks but "numbers don't matter" BS. :rip:

I'm sorry but, like, this is objectively untrue. All of the most legendary artists in history are… drumroll… also the best selling. It's a massive factor because you don't reach that level of success and not have insane impact. Not to mention her impact is so well-documented that denying it is in bad faith. It's funny to see that narrative fall apart whenever fans of less successful artists fight over numbers and treat them like gospel suddenly. :toofunny3:

Also, the way TTPD's critical reception - which isn't even bad, it's only a "low" 76 because of some review bombs but most were positive if not really high - has emboldened people to rewrite history when it comes to the quality of her music and act like it's not extremely acclaimed is so weird.

I love this song so ******* much it's even weird how bad I love it. Like, when you stop to reflect about the lyrics you get understand how deep this lyrics is. This verse hits me SO HARD:

Sometimes, I wonder if you're gonna screw this up with me
But you told Lucy you'd kill yourself if I ever leave
And I had said that to Jack about you, so I felt seen
Everyone we know understands why it's meant to be
'Cause we're crazy
So tell me, who else is gonna know me?

THIS IS SO DEEP. The meaning of this verse.

But you told Lucy you'd kill yourself if I ever leave
And I had said that to Jack about you, so I felt seen

Taylor is so intense in her feelings. Love that for her because I'm the exactly same. Oh my god. The parasocial relationship I have with her is out of this world. That's why she's my fav artist since 2013 and still.

I think I want the vibe of TS12 to be some mix of the following:

- Visually reminiscent of European 1960s/1970s films, think of a vintage summer in Sweden, Spain, France, and Italy. Very Brigitte Bardot vibes.

- Sonically inspired by ABBA and European pop music with lots of real instruments.

- Thematically giving very nostalgic, end of summer. This vibe tends to resonate very well with audiences as we can see from August, Cruel Summer, YOYOK, Wildest Dreams, ****!

I don't want to jump the gun or make any predictions because I can't foresee the future, but given the circumstances, and considering how happy Tay is, I think we're about to witness a new peak in her career.

I feel fairly confident in saying I don't think she can match 2023 ever again just because it was too big, and the circumstances were too unique. But her demand is in no decline, so I'm like 97% sure she can easily get another album - if not several - bigger than Midnights and TTPD. While Taylor Mania did help them, at the same time those two albums could have been much bigger if she didn't have 738372 things smashing at once and taking attention away from them.

This is why I want a fairly concise album with a shorter standard tracklist. She will also never be able to top TTPD's debut (maybe in US first week sales but that's still unlikely) so she should go for longevity. Like, she can release the deluxe later on and prolong the era. The domination with a shorter (12-15 tracks) upbeat pop album could put Mid and Torch to shame, I fear. Especially if she goes on a tour supporting the album. The GP would eat up a love album from her in 2025.

The way i barely listen to TTPD anymore, i was like what song is this (i only regularly listen to Fresh Out The Slammer & The Manuscript).

We need more upbeat bops, enough with the depressing, no melody, word salad stuff :giraffe:

Don't ever quote me with some bullshit like this again, I rebuke you in Her name. BEGONE!

Saved! (2004) dir. Brian Dannelly ~ Mandy Moore

I've been thinking, and I really feel like she will use one of those September film festivals (most likely TIFF) to premiere her documentary. Then it'll probably go to theaters 1-2 weeks prior to the TS12 release in October, just like the Eras Film leading into 1989 TV.

Like, think about it, we all know it's coming and it'll be a big deal since it'll probably span the last 4-5 or so years of her career. There's no way she's releasing it directly to streaming when she has proven she can put butts in seats and would easily gross over $100M again in ticket sales. Especially since she will cut out traditional film studios again and get a gigantic cut of that money.

I also think it's just a perfect way to get everyone absolutely tuned in leading up to the new album, in the way that old school promo slots won't (they're useless, sorry) and neither would just a Disney+ release.

Of course all of this is pure speculation, but it makes a lot of sense to me.

summer might be referenced in the lyrics but TO ME the instrumentals and overall production of the album do not give summer. Cardigan for example just makes me want to curl up under a blanket in front of a fire

All of this :clap3:

It's probably very brutally realistic but many of the legends we talk about probably might not be remembered as well if their sales or hits were abysmal... MJ and Madonna of course had hits upon hits, even Prince was one of best selling artists ever alongside the acclaim :cm:

The TTPD critical reception was very weird, her scores on AOTY and the like were already getting bombed when the album had just leaked, and who can forget Sputnik (I think) giving the album three scores... but who really cares, if P4K gave it an 8.0 they'd just say they were afraid of Swifties doxxing them

This ain't Spotify. The GP & fans just love this track. And the fact that it's above all Jack produced tracks (except Cruel Summer & Lover) & all the Aaron Dessner tracks… maybe it's a sign :cm:

AM autoplay absolutely exists lol, it's just that they only ever use it for old tracks for some reason.

But yes 1989 yes eternal classics :clap3:

With the current silence, I have a feeling we might finally get Lover Deluxe for the 6th anniversary :allears:

The fact that she was actually planning to do it in 2020, after Folklore but she decided to work on Evermore, instead
