Yeah, I've seen the same.  Shame because Period has some of her best work since Rainbow and she deserves all her flowers. The One and YKY both have massive AC/Top 40 appeal.

YKY could've been WAY bigger despite what people say about it quality wise. It had no music video or radio push. They ditched it way too fast also. Made zero sense.

Do we know if the physicals are going to be available in big box stores? I know Walmart and Target list them on their website but that doesn't necessarily mean that they are stocking them for release day... 

 

If they are on the shelf during tracking week she obviously stands much more of a chance for ~20K 

Just realized she finally changed the cover for Delusional!!

 

However the album sells, she SERVED with it. Tons of promo, plenty of singles, and she's tapped into that classic Kesha sound without making it sound like a retread or a "middle-aged post-flop pop star tries and fails to relive her glory days" kind of way. It sounds like classic Kesha but with the modern twist — you can hear elements of hyperpop and that modern XCXish sound on Boy Crazy, Joyride, and Red Flag, and YKY taps into that country-pop sound that I (and her fans) generally hate but that does well. You've got Attention for the f*gs, and The One and Delusional for the milennial soccer moms who listen to P!nk. If it's not sticking with the GP, it's not for lack of trying. 
 

Sorry for rambling but I'm just so proud of her for proving she can make this kind of music without you-know-who. This album proved it was HER vision and songwriting all along that made her early 2010s work so great, not that man's production.

 

I don't even mind that the rollout took a year. I've thoroughly enjoyed watching all of this unfold throughout the past 12 months.

I think this could be a part of the problem though. Her current songs are all over the place in terms of the target audience/sound. I think it makes any casual fans find it harder to be fully invested in the album and era because the singles so far because the gays/girls wouldn't be vibing with Delusional/Yippee, the soccer mums wouldn't be vibing with attention/boy crazy.

 

im not saying having a versatile album/sound is a bad thing but I can see how it would alienate sectors of the casual fan base from fully engaging with and following this project.

This combined with the leak makes it feel dead on arrival for me, even though I haven't listened to the leak yet it feels like the fandom energy/hype aren't there anymore personally. The string of underperforming singles with no promotion or strategy as well. Half the tracks already being released as singles, Attention not being added to the tracklist, It feels like she already moved on from the album. I'm still impressed at some of her accomplishments with this being an independent release, and events like Joyride's release and songs like BC and Attention but things were really mismanaged overall. Even with the budget constraints I feel like some of her fans would have been able to execute the rollout better! She needs to leave Crush and partner with whoever is managing Marina, she just put out a really solid rollout despite being independent (I think).

And we're in for some bops, I'm excited for the critical reception for the album too minus the singles.

The leak only affects people who actually knows it exists. Most people don't care to download leaks now, tbh.

That may be true, but I'm just in awe of how well she met the brief for each of those audiences. I mean that's my personal opinion, but she really hit the nail on the head with everything she's trying to do.

I agree but I do feel as though it has an effect on retaining certain audiences for the longer term.

 

If anything, I wish she built upon the anti-pop/psychedelic foundations she created on Gag Order. You can see it a bit with the intro to Freedom. I kind of wish she sprinkled that throughout the album a bit more, giving it more depth and helping it feel like a proper follow up to her previous release. That's just me being pedantic though. 

I love everything she's put out, the diversity on display is emblematic of her saying "it's always been me. No label. No men. Every sound. Every era"

That I do agree with. She's capable of music that's much more interesting and boundary-pushing than frankly anything she's put out before, Gag Order included. I'm ready for her Dead Petz moment (but more focused and streamlined). That being said this did seem like the right time for a "return to form" album so I'm very glad we got Period as it is. 

I feel like Period is just the appetizer to what's next for her, musically.

Rainbow > Gag Order > Animal > Cannibal > Warrior > PERIOD > High Road

 

i almost felt guilty not giving Gag Order the #1 but wow Rainbow truly is that *****

For me:

 

Gag Order > A+C > Period > Rainbow > Warrior > High Road 

 

I think Rainbow is a more interesting and fully-realised body of work than Period but in terms of # of songs I will keep coming back to, I think Period edges Rainbow out.

I agree that the era is kind of all over the place, but it's her first one as an independent artist and, like I was expecting, the tour tickets are selling well once the dates get closer, so that's more money entering Kesha's pockets. I'm sure that will help her future projects more effectively.
