Are you on PrEP?

Featured Replies

Let's talk about it. Are you on PrEP and if so, why? What is your lifestyle like?

Side question, what safe s*x vaccines have you taken, MPox? HPV Gardasil? Any others you would recommend?

No. I like getting to know and building a certain level of trust with someone before I take them to the garden of eden.

  • This sounds like a right-wing talking point. People will have promiscuous and unsafe sex regardless of how you/anyone else feels, so it makes sense to focus on how to prevent the spread of HIV instead

Why do people sex shame other people for sleeping with lots of people. Jealousy is a curse. Prep is great

Yes. Even if you only have safer sex condoms can break (intentionally or accidentally) + being assaulted is a real possibility + people being dishonest about sex is a tale as old as time. Also being on it incentivizes regular testing for other STIs.

I don't have sex that often and when I do I always use condoms.

only 2+ hours before what i am planning to do and of coz 24 and 48 hours after my first intake :coffee:

No but also I'm not sexually active and haven't been for years. I'd get on prep should that change.

no but i haven't done anything on the backdoor so it's not needed :suburban:

about vaccinations: the usual will do, which are hpv, hep AB, meningitis…

No, my GP won't prescribe it to me, despite asking. And I don't want to pay for a private prescription.

That's odd, in the America's it's covered by insurance I think

No, I'm not taking long term medication to prevent against one sexually transmitted illness. So many dumb gays who think prep means they can bareback. Syphilis will get you sooner or later.

I've had the vaccines for mpox, HPV and Hep A and B.

I'm from Scotland, and my GP is older and a little bit lazy I won't lie. :skull: As I said I know there are ways to get it on a paid prescription but at the moment I'm okay without it.

Acting like people who have gone through the process of getting a PrEP (/DoxyPEP) prescription aren't on top of their sexual health is backwards logic. Even if they have riskier sex, they're probably more on top of testing/letting partners know than someone who just relies on vibes/condoms.

I Am literally starting next week

I already have The PrEP in my hands but I Am gonna start taking next week for lots of reasons

my insurance is gonna supply me with it

STDs and mostly HIV and my fear of getting them is the main reason why I was so scared of having sex since condoms can break especially with anal sex

I just want to feel safe and truly enjoy the moment without worrying about HIV

i am still gonna Wear condoms but feeling protected with PrEP is such a relief tbh

Ok maybe I worded that poorly. My point is that HIV is just one of a number of STIs. To me it makes little sense to take a long term medication, which isn't actively treating/controlling a chronic condition, especially when you're still at risk of catching any number of other STIs. The hyper focus on HIV in the gay community makes sense given its history, but it often feels like it becomes the main talking point in conversations around sexual health. Other conditions which can cause long term health issues, like Syphilis, Herpes or some antibiotic resistant strains of Gonorrhea, feel somewhat overlooked in these conversations.

I told my doctor I have sex like once or twice a year and he prescribed it. I figured I might as well have it in case

Nope. Was in a 4yr relationship so never needed it.

Maybe this could be a good educational thread without having to resort to different pages/professionals.

Idk where I read it or heard it, but it was something along the lines of PrEP causing liver or kidney issues can't remember which one.

No. I am someone who almost always has bad side effects from medications and things so I'm afraid :deadbanana2:

I see what you're saying. Worth making the point that untreated HIV has a much higher death rate than other untreated STIs. Like yes the history has contributed to a lot of focus being put on HIV, but it actually is a much more serious infection. :bird:
