She kinda delivered a 2nd gen release in a 4th/5th gen world.

 

I was expecting a more punchy chorus on Love Splash! but I think it suits her. @Night was kinda right that she probably would have been better off with a more mature concept than this though.

 

Weirdly, I thought I would like "Get Up And Dance" the most but actually I don't...the drums being literally copy & pasted from Cookie Jar is really offputting

 

Overall, I think anyone who is a JOY fan can find something to like about this album. BUT could SM have done better for her...? Yes.

 

I enjoyed the album too and I def get what she means when she said she chose the title because it sounds like her and sth only she could do; I loved it and the intentionality in her vocals.

 

Still, her recent Spotify Idol Lounge playlist with her picks stings because it literally encapsulates her taste in sound and my expectations of an album of hers so much better. Her extension of Underwater last year was such an alluring and distinct sneak peek of what she can do with her voice and the genres she likes uniquely.

 

I believe she had a big part in the album song selections e.g. the jazzy/piano and bossa nova genres here corresponding to sounds and songs she previously reccommended (My Foolish Heart, The Girl from Ipanema, etc.) but they weirdly sound a bit too safe. Get up and dance also sounds like sth cute she would love but it's too much ReVe festival and overdone imo for this much creatively involved person like her.
