Joy's title is cute but a bside at best. Also a summer concept for a solo debut is so uninspired. I feel really sorry for her because I'm sure getting a solo debut was part of her negations and they ended up giving her this. :(

IVE's title track sounds just like Ice Queen with weaker melodies

this is gorgeous  it kinda reminds me of Opening by Jo Yuri

But it's widely acknowledged that Jihyo is top-tier idol, like it's not a fantasy

but the thing is that also has a lot to do with them seemingly being more comfortable within western norms due to their upbringings and world views.

To bring it all home they basically cheated the system by just sitting there and eating their food for 7 years whilst connecting and socialiting in Hollywood and Europe (mostly Paris), making connection and securing their spot in modern pop culture,

This. This is exactly what I meant from the beginning. I'm sorry if my "not strictly pandering to the west" comment threw people off but the word 'pandering' does not start and end with English songs and performances in my book. I'm so done with this topic now.

I like Joy's song, too. It's cute, kind of bg music when you wanna just vibe a little with something light.  I recognise the model as well because I follow his thread on lpsg.

I legit can only remember Nayeon having a solo  and then the Japanese subunit just because it pissed me off they didn't go by MiMOSA instead of MISAMO

Jihyo's solo was just not upto par of what people were expecting from her. And it quickly came and went without much noise. The mini sold a lot of copies but that's just within the fanbase.

Joy's solo debut was excellent, as I expected. but she really released such an amazing album

Yugo Takano. One of his Miu Miu shoots - where he was wearing a short skirt - went viral and he gained a lot of traction for that. I guess Joy saw it too and said

They look STUNNING oh my lord

also no matter how the song is gonna be, I'm just glad it's not the usual empowerment stuff and the teaser already sounds cvnt. Well hello let's celebrate that

I wanted a song where Joy's voice could shine more. It doesn't have to be a ballad but the red concept of Red Velvet (which is what her solo reminded me of) never was able to showcase her best.
