Katy Perry - '143'

She deserves for being lazy and dumb. She should have fired all of her team a decade ago.

Her lazy ass that isn't able to make a good album after 5 years. I'm sure the whole album took her like 3 hours to make it.

now, where can I see her performance in RIR?

I'm tired of the hate train against Katy. Why do people keep picking on her? It's so unfair....... Even though her so-called friends drove her into becoming a rape victim and gossiped about her b

This will blow over. Madonna had eras where people absolutely loathed her, and she's a beloved legend now.

Girl, the absolute nerve to compare her to Madonna. :deadbanana4: Madonna had talent and great music to fall back on even when people loathed her ass for her antics. Her flops were still good albums (not talking about her post-COADF career). She constantly reinvented herself and managed to come back with great projects.

Even comparing her to Paula Abdul and Cyndi Lauper feels disrespectful now. But hey, at least Teenage Dream will always be a pop classic.

:suburban:it's what she deservesd to push Gorgeous for the release week

I still hold out hope that all these acoustic bonus tracks (so far) mean they're preparing an unplugged album. And honestly I'm not ready for Katy to permanently hang up her microphone like ever

tbh Smile was a cute era for us but visuals ruined by the pandemic

NO MORE TEARS FOR NEW YEARS is a cute track

Um this is actually good. Might be the best call-back to TD/PRISM but with a clearer 80's mood board. I... like it. Maybe she should try pushing it a little bit in January?

That sad, cheap, lazy drum that plays alone in the background in the transition to the chorus though :toofunny2: Luke is an algorithmic pop producer, there isn't (and never has been) any finesse or sensibility...

She slayed Rock in Rio! Had to sell my tickets cuz im working today (and im not from Rio, its close but have to travel to go) but i watched it live with my friends and its probably one of her best concerts ever?
she truly SLAYED it. Especially the first act of the concert.

The hate for the album is overblown.
It's a serviceable, frivolous pop album.
She said herself it "wasn't that deep".

I get the criticism for the launch missteps & the producer choice, even the uninspired production - but the vitriol is dramatic af.

No one was expecting lyrical masterpieces from Kitty. And I do think it's the strongest she's ever sounded, vocally.

There's not much I'd willingly revisit, other than the Doechii feat., but I wouldn't leave the party if any of it was playing either. It deff serves its purpose; gay brunch music.

Yeah I agree that NTFNY should be pushed as a single, especially considering the lackluster response to the main album tracks (even though the pop dance was executed rly well imo)

Maybe start with All The Love in November and then follow it up with NTFNY during the winter season, let the critics tear it apart now lol

That would be the best single rollout if they didn't want to pull the plug on 143 completely, which I get why they would if they did but yeah

The problem with the album is she sold it as full of club dance Ibiza pop records, and there's none of that on the album. Lifetimes comes closest to that and even that is too mellow. Its all mellow pop and trap beats. 2014 progressive house or avicii dance style music is back in (see Marshemello Miles on It). She has the voice for a country dance style song and should try that if she wants to go the dance pop route.

Someone needs to make a Nirvana extended version. Also the snippet from her live enchanced using AI goes harder.

Now on top if they make Gorgeous a single instead of giving All the Love a chance :rogue:

Femme Fatale is an example of how you do a basic dance gym album WELL. The choruses are explosive, there's quirky beats, experimentation with other micro-genres, it's straight to the point and knows what it is. This is not a bad dance record per se but it commits to absolutely nothing. The lyrics are unmentionably bad, the delivery is soulless and the formula is literally copy pasted for every track. It's not even the sound people wanted from her during the comeback discourse last year. Dance music works at its best with either a maximalist sense of urgency injected into it, a strong melody OR some form of experimental hooky drop to pull you in and nothing on 143 has either. It's not the genre, it's the fact that it's bare minimum on all fronts.

Eh, most pop songs get remixed in a club setting anyway & this album seems suited for that, while still maintaining accessibility for a general audience, which has really always been her core.

Katy's not really been known for being at the forefront of production & sound trends. She's always either smack bang in the trend, or just getting around to it. Her music defined pop in the 2010's only by virtue of scoring such massive hits on hits.

Even something like Dark Horse came at the tail end of trap, from my memory? The way she works sound isn't really pushing boundaries, it's always been editing it to its most digestible, radio friendly form. She hasn't been "edgy" since OOTB.

I'll say, at the very least, her albums are distinct. One of her peers has been serving the same song for like 3 albums now - and she's the biggest star on the planet with hardly the same (and arguably more warranted) sonic critiques from all these publications. A lot of the public pile on is for clicks & is shaping how the era is received online.

If the music was exactly the same but the headlines & reviews weren't, most would be singing a less harsh tune.

I'd rather dee eye why than hear a country Katy record.

OMG

The Rock In Rio show must be her best ever :jonny5:

The Woman's World intro with everybody singing the lyrics got me chocked :rip: (also we need that new version/remix it's 1000x better than the original)
Finally she cut all the yeeeah she used to scream while out of breath

Her vocals were really stable and way better than Witness The Tour

The One That Got Away :cries:

No more clownery :alexz:

Justice for Nirvana :bam:  it didn't deserve that interlude treatment. She should've sung and made an epic choreography with the dancers like the one she posted on Instagram

Slime didn't deserve that consideration (Crush > Teary Eyes, Nirvana > Smile)

I don't know if this is worse than Witness, but certainly these both are in the bottom of her discography.

There's something about this album, as every hater have already said, you can clearly notice this was made in two weeks or so. Lazy lyrics, repetitive and very low budget production.

I really hope she retires after this. This is pure damaged to her image, everyone hates her.

I mean, I can't even decide which song is worse, if WW, Gorgeous or Artificial :rip:

I know Witness' low are lowest than them but still. At least you had BA and CTTR here you have nothing more than the generic lifetimes :rip: my queen is so lost, poor of her.

any links to the rock n rio show? Ive only seen e few minute clips on youtube
