Diary - Alicia Keys | Turns 20

Featured Replies

One of her most underrated sings ever.

The song was solely produced by Alicia.

It peaked at #8 on the Hot 100 and #2 on the R&B charts and was the 34th biggest hit of 2004, 4th biggest R&B hit of 2004 and 21st biggest R&B song  of the 2000s.

It was nominated for Best R&B song by a duo and lost to her own "My Boo"

Fun fact: the phone number she mentions in the song was her old one and owned by a new user and they got so many calls after the release of this song

The song's lyrics tell listeners that they can reach Keys by calling a particular number, 489–4608, which was her former telephone number minus the area code when she lived in New York City. Callers who used the correct code (347) would have received a voicemail from Keys herself. However, after listening to the song, fans tried calling the number with different area codes, and one of them, 912, turned out to be the number of a retired pastor who got 20+ calls a day from Keys' fans in the weeks after the song's release. This led to a $95 phone bill resulting from charges associated with the *69 last-call return option, which he used to track down each caller. Turner has declined to change his number, having held it for fourteen years before the song's release.

Such a beautiful song!!! And then to have the legendary Tony! Toni! Toné! on it!!!

lemme revisit this i just heard songs in a minor in full for the first time last week

This song is one of my favorite songs ever. Alicia was onto something when she created this masterpiece (along with You Don't Know My Name and If I Ain't Got You)

such a beautiful song and i didnt know Alicia Keys can self produce song like that, such a talent.

She deserves a co-superbowl with Usher

One of her best, The Diary of Alicia is just one of her best albums.

Beautiful lyrics, the melody, her voice, everything went the right way :jonny:

I mean, Jermaine Paul is eating her up in the coda but a classic nonetheless.

This is when I really fell in love with Alicia. I always did love the live version of it, especially.

I won't tell... your secrets... your secrets... break it down!
