No. It's doing better than Greedy.

Spotify position is hard to compare because streaming numbers are vastly different at the moment. The benchmark to be #1 on Spotify now is significantly higher than it was when Greedy peaked so it's not a like for like comparison. For example, Greedy peaked at #1 on Spotify with like 5 mil streams. Sabrina peaked at #1 with like 10/11 mil.

Same with hot 100. Greedy at its peak of 3, did less points than Espresso did last week at 8. 

 

So espresso is doing even better than greedy but the environment is much more competitive so positions aren't like for like. You have to look at the points and streams.

 

The bigger question is can Espresso achieve Greedy stability and given how competitive the charts are…

I think SNL effect will provide that information better. If she gives an iconic and fun performance then it's sealed that the song will be top 10 for months and the way it's still gaining from radio it's a good indicator of that. Like streaming and downloads are fine and haven't changed at all since its release

Yeah SNL's impact on the song's performance will be very telling for whether or not it has longevity. BB midweeks have it dropping to 9 this week, so if she can hold onto top 10 until SNL, hopefully that will boost it up the following week (assuming she can compete with Billie's album bomb).

I get that it's a tougher environment. But it would be interesting if after all this she doesn't hit #1 after all.

I mean it probably won't (in the us - it's already gone #1 in UK, Aus, etc.) but that doesn't take away from the success it's seen. The song is still doing numbers that would outpace or tie most recent #1s. For instance, if it had debuted today, Yes, And would never have gotten #1 and Greedy would never have even seen the inside of the top 10, let alone top 3.
 

It's actually impressive she's maintained a foothold at all given the unprecedented performance of so many songs around it.

That's what happens when you make a catchy bop for the summer! It also has a very reasonable attitude with a demography of girls and gays like the lyrics is so fun and confident and original I mean there are not other songs close to the lines of Espresso. She really did magic the day she entered to the studio and in glad the GP is heavily connecting with it. I hear the SNL performance will go viral and will be all over TikTok, X and reels and I fear if a remix is coming with an A List name and it's good enough, this will stay on the top 10 for at least two months more. Just incredible
