Could J.Lo have a "Believe"-sized comeback?

Featured Replies

I know On the Floor was already a massive comeback for her, but could she have another one? Or is her music career over for good?

Tbh she deserves it after this latest project :clap3: I wouldn't mind another Waiting For Tonight, or remix album era SMASH

The streaming has made possible for artists to go viral and have big sucess so I don't see why she can't. She just needs the right song that goes viral.

She'll need a huge dance moment again but never underestimate the triple threat J-Lo

Would the U.S. market even be open to a dance pop anthem at this point in time? Other artists who have attempted to take that route (Dua, Ari, Bebe) have taken a monumental amount of criticism from the U.S. for channeling that genre?

Only Ava Max appears to be able to deflect any such criticisms levelled against her like Teflon.

Those global smash comebacks are usually once a career.

On the Floor was hers

She would really need to come hard with a quality track. I think she will has it in her. She just needs better consistency & material.

maybe if a big name sample 'if you had my love' and credit her on feat. otherwise...

edit: jack harlow on DM right now :coffee2:

With the right song sure. Dance pop seems to be making a bit of a comeback. If she went that route with the right producer and writers she could have a good hit.

No. Believe was a good song. And this is JLo we're talking about...

J.Lo might not have a strong album discography (neither does Cher), but she definitely has many good songs. In fact, she's had more hits than Cher internationally with significantly less releases.

Also, let's not pretend Cher was a respected musician in 1998. She was a punchline associated with gay men and no one expected "Believe" to be an international smash. :rip:

Cher has a handful of strong albums from the 70s, though.

Her latest project is having a Believe type moment in my house which is good enough for me. I don’t need locals to share my tastes to feel secure.

On The Floor was her Believe/We Belong Togetha

Believe and OTF were global smashes unlike the other song lmao.

OTF has similar peaks and year ends to Believe WW. It just didn’t help the album sell like believe.

We Belong Together was MediaTraffic's Global and US #1 song of 2005. It was that massive in English-speaking markets in particular. Those two songs having a similar level of success across the globe don't make them anywhere near as big as WBT overall.

So quit with the lies.

The only reason why it spent that long on top of the chart was because of radio. And yes, both mediatraffic and billboard. In fact it didn’t spend a single week at #1 on the sales chart. And it wasn’t massive in the Anglosphere. #17 YEC in Australia, #20 YEC in the UK, #36 YEC in New Zealand and Unknown for Canada. And yes the global market does matter. Of course digital sales were stronger in 2005 vs 2011 but the year ends prove a big difference. WBT doesn’t even have a cert for Japan which was her second biggest market, while OTF has it. OTF is probably around 3.5m digital copies in Europe alone. Near 1m in the UK, over 700k in Germany, 250k in France. Over 100k in smaller countries like the Netherlands, Italy, Spain, etc. Believe did amazing globally. In fact it’s the best selling female physical single globally. If you look at the sales it’s not even as. Ig as Halloback Girl or Because Of You from the same year.

It spent a record number of weeks (at the time) in the top 2 of the sales chart and spent 35 weeks total on the chart. It sold one million digital downloads in that 12 month period in addition to breaking airplay records. 1.75 million units in the US including physical singles. It's currently at 6x platinum in the US as it continues to smash on streaming (500k just a few days ago)

and thank you for showing where it ended as a top 20 YEC single in other international markets. It was an 11-week #1 in Australia :deadbanana4:

On the Floor didn't enter top 3 in either Mediatraffic (#5) or Billboard (#11). Consistent success is impressive, but it doesn't make it as massive as WBT was because of its success in the world's biggest music market as well as in other English-speaking markets. And she did that with an R&B song. People were also busy buying the Mimi album (IFPI #2) while OTF was concentrated to single sales.

the absolute delusion and excuses.
