She has been cited as an inspiration to many and her influence in the industry is very much present 

The Brit fans need to chill and support their fave, no one disagrees that she's not a legend but don't expect to not have **** thrown back at you the moment you try to undermine Beyonce or say they're at par with each other... They're just not. Britney is a legend but Bey's thing is just something a tad bit bigger and different.

Britney is an example of the dangers of the music industry that preys on young women. Nobody wants to be the next Britney Spears. Just thinking about the recent incidents like the basketball player who didn’t recognize her or the racist comments she made about Jay-Z or the photo with a dog sniffing her cooter. That’s just not legendary behavior. She’s really a tragic figure. 

An icon ? Definitely 

a legend ? No

I agree with some of what you said , recently whenever Britney comes to my mind it’s always the embarrassing things she did and said comes first and not her iconic music and songs , sad ? Definitely but it is what it is 

Had she continued on her path with In the Zone and that whole debacle between 2005-2007 never happened. I would say yeah, she was looking like she was getting better and better. 
 

But that never happened. She’s known now today as a tragic figure. Bigger for her scandals and problems than her music. She’s an icon. But not a legend. The only way to fix this would be to do a total 180 and revamp her career and public image. 

 

I love Knee, I really do but a lot of her middle aged fans living in 2007 have posters of Lindsay Lohan and Paris Hilton on their walls, also take pride in making collages of her "iconic" moments like showing her puss coming out the car, shaving her head, or wearing a pink party city wig (and also used to say delulu things like Nicki Minaj copied Britney). Using that ugly blue dress at the 2013 Smurfs premiere is somehow a drag towards Beyoncé even though that big wig is clearly from the IASF era 5 years prior, tells me something is cognitively wrong and I do get secondhand embarrassment as a Britney stan.

And Gaga and Britney are not in the same level, of Gaga was forced to retire like Britney was she wouldn’t be as relevant.

Before Britney, there was no one: Not Debbie Gibson/tiffany/Brandy/Monica/Aaliyah/Leann Rimes...After Britney did it with Britney and In the zone, there was Miley, Rihanna, taylor, Xtina and others.

Trailblazer not only for teen pop but pop music in general thanks to her #1 breakthrough hit Baby one more time which broke Max Martin through. BOMT was his first #1 global hit and he is now #3 in line against two Beatles for having the most #1s either as a songwriter or producer in music history. The hits started years prior but the phenomenon started with Britney. Tons of classics and innovative outputs that are still referenced, samples, and inspire generations.

As many outlets put it, Azealia, and Joe Budden: She changed music and changed the game.

She was the main act and other acts were created to be a new version of her for other labels.

She's made exes and antis iconic just by their affiliation with Britney.
