How did Xtina drop the ball?

Featured Replies

I have been listening to Back To Basics quite a lot this week.

After the slayage that were ain't no other man & candyman (both are pop perfection imo) and after the hit turned classic "hurt" how did she drop the ball so hard?

Don't get me wrong, bionic is a solid album but why didn't she pursue the sound of back to basics further? She went completely nuts on the songs I mentioned.

It's rather sad the last tour she did was when Bush was in the white house.

  • how the **** does she not have artistic identity? Yall abcdef words are truly delusional!

Cause she tried to be Madonna but without the originality or care for her audience. Each era of Christina's she alienated her audience (the GP) every time cause of how jarring her change in sounds are.

That's why we often hear from GP reps: "I'm a huge fan of her Stripped album. I don't even know if anything else came out after that?".

Yeah she didn’t take the time to let us know who she is….

Even now I don’t understand who she is as an artist

Have you seen Burlesque? The B2B sound is continued there. It's a fun film and the soundtrack is great.

As for Christina... I think she just gets bored easily. People point to Bionic as when she stopped promoting her work but the truth is she stopped during the B2B era. And when she became a mum, it was over. People will find her albums jarring but I like that she tries something new every time, even when it's not always perfect.

She had no clear identity as an artist. She tried to be Britney Spears, Madonna, Lady Gaga… she does not know what to do with her music.

Doesn't know who she is as an artist. Stripped is one of the best pop albums EVER, and I will stand by that. I love that album. She should have continued that sound/image longer but instead she went to B2B and personally that was the album I started to stop caring about her music.

If she had released Bionic in 2008 instead of her greatest hits album it would have done much better than it did

the drastic change between albums and the release gap. she took way too long to release during her first 3

You are obviously not a fan and don't follow her music. Ever since 1998/1999 interviews she always said she wanted to try different things and combine different genres of music. Gays like you would have liked her to be just sitting there singing ballads all day long but that's just not who Christina is. Also explain to me how Elastic Love, Birds of Prey, or Monday Morning sound anything like Lady Gaga? The madonna thing, well she's always taking inspiration from her and has always cited Madonna as a huge influence along with Janet Jackson. But she also likes Nirvana, the prodigy, Etta James, Nina Simone, Fiona Apple, Bjork.

Elastic Love sounds too much like a wannabe version of M.I.A. even when M.I.A. is writing the song Christina sounds like MIA

How is it a wannabe M.I A, no **** M.I.A worked on it with Christina so of course it's gonna sound like M.I.A has her hands in it. How does it sound like lady gaga thougu,, u haven't answered that?

No one said those songs sounded like Gaga but Not Myself Tonight was a clear rip off of Gaga at the time.

She waited too long to release after B2B which made it hard for her to transition into the digital era and meant she had to go up against a whole new generation of pop girls, she didn't lock in a large enough fanbase by giving the people the sound they wanted from her, and she never really established herself as a touring act after the success of the B2B tour.

Didn't change for Beyonce she just released a new album last year.

Because she doesn't care for her career. She's enjoying her family and her private life and we should respect that.

One of the things I love from her is that she always evolve not a single album sound the same as the other.

I honestly do not think there is anyone on the forum who gets history rewritten about her in the way Christina does.

NMT sounds nothing like Gaga's music and the video itself was a direct reference to Madonna (who I assume you also think copied Gaga :rip:). Ya'll just post multiple times in Xtina threads and repeat the same stuff, like why?? It's kinda funny but also very weird behaviour!

This.

The GP only remembers Debut singles  & Stripped

Her change in sound & image has always been too dramatic , badly done and too far in time.

She tried be a mix of Madonna/Janet/Mariah/Whitney/Celine.

She had very extreme reinventions which turned off a portion of her fans: From 8x platinum to 4-5x platinum to 1-2x platinum to gold to uncertified

Great voice and she had the ability to reinvent herself and rule. theworld but she mismanaged her moves

1999 Debut era: 8/10

Genie in a bottle is wonderful. It still feels great too

What a girl wants remix is excellent. Doesn't get pushed but deserves

I turn to you is a Celine dion wannabe and it horrid

Come on over forgettable and cute. Reminded me a target commercial

2000/2001 Xmas & latin album

2002 Sophomore era:

Instead of going in her Stripper era she should have gone in to her Back to Basics era. One it could serve as homage as she transitioned into adulthood and could have served as a blueprint. Two. Imagewise it would have led to her falling in line with timberlake as the blue eyed soul pop/r&b person and she could have given Beyonce a run for her money as it took awhile for Beyonce to truly dominate that lane.

2005 Junior album era; the album to solidify an artist. STRIPPED  right before pop/r&b became popular in 2006-7

2007 another latin album

2008 Lotus

2009 GH Keeps getting better

2011 another latin album

2012 Bionic EDM era

2015 an experimental era since nothing major was going on at that ime.

2017 Liberation

2018 extended xmas album or 2nd one like Mariah since xmas music surged.

2021 latin album

2023 latin album

2024 studio album

She decided to attempt and fail at outdoing Britney when she could have began carving. other pop/r&b lane when she only needed to compete with Alicia Keys and Ashanti before Beyonce became a powerhouse.

Because of this Britney owns the pop throne from her era, Beyonce owns the r&b throne from her era, Pink owns the pop/rock throne from her era, and Shakira owns. thel atin pop throne from her era.

The long gaps between albums. If she released an album yearly like other pop acts were at the time, things would be different. She also doesn’t have a sound. It’s a shame because she has talent but she doesn’t have a solid fan base. Her promo is awful too. The last time she promoted in Europe was Burlesque, I’m not even joking.

Absolutely. She even talks about it here...
