Do people overhype unreleased music?

I've noticed this phenomenon all the time recently where basically everything unreleased is praised as better almost all the time.

My theory is that it's because it means this music is rarer, and less people have heard it, therefore people fancy themselves "tastemakers" and as if they're into some secret amazing music that no one has heard of.

For example, Kim Petras' unreleased album Problematique was pretty much panned when it leaked but now that Feed the Beast came out officially everyone is acting like they always loved Problematique and how it's so much better than FTB. I think it's just because it's not out and people don't know it as well, they feel edgy saying it's better.

Another example: Bonnie McKee's unreleased songs "SLAY" and "Hot City" have been talked about by gays on forums for a decade and now they're both officially released this past month and crickets. :skull: (both bangers tho!)

Yes of course. Taylor’s All of the Twinks You ****** Before is a perfect example of that.

Yes, while there are definitely some gems that go unreleased most of the time people say they are better just because they are unreleased. The same thing happens with demos, especially if the demo leaks before the finished version comes out.

Yeah. I still can't believe people forced Lana to release Yes To Heaven when that song is basic af compared to the rest of her discography

yes but i cant help it if i love them, even borderline unlistenable rough unfinished songs like these

Sure, it can be overhyped sometimes...unless your name starts with Addison and ends with Rae. This thread already proving her impact :alexz:Rise, Queen!

Most unreleased music is praised because of the potential the song or demo has. But yeah, most songs are unreleased for a reason; they are poorly mixed

Originally for Burlesque but didn’t make it. Straight bop! First single material.

Yes. I think it's a waste of time and mental headspace to wonder what could have been. Sometimes things just are and there's no good reason why and you just have to accept it and move forward/hope for good new stuff from your fave. There's a reason it wasn't dropped officially that was either your fave's choice or a related party of your fave.

Nah, so much incredible unreleased music has been wasted and its tragic...

i would think that there are a lot of released songs that are released poorly mixed (ahem High Road)

No if anything they don’t hype it enough. Some rappers unreleased outshines their released (Juice WRLD being a big example)

Most of the times, but then there's the occasional hidden gem that would be a smash the artist will just not release.. :pancake:

Lana, Charli, Allie X, FKA twigs, Natalia Kills & yes Addison Rae prove there is a reason to check for unreleaseds

it's because only fans are discussing unreleased stuff usually so the average sentiment is way more positive than when something is released and casual listeners, passive observers, and haters are chiming in and critics and stats have colored people's impressions.

yes, 90% of the time it’s just cause it’s something new to them. a lot of the time artists actually know what to put on the chopping block or not. there are some unreleased songs that absolutely chew but some of the stuff stans hype is…. :skull:

Ironically she would’ve been my example for this thread. While she does have some bops most of her unreleased is terrible compared to her released albums. The fact that people still want that original doll project when most of the demos sound worse that blackout and in the zone which were amazing always confused the hell out of me.

Also thanks for posting this cause I did enjoy that take off song which I haven’t heard before

Actually that song was for burlesque. It didn’t get released cause they couldn’t get the sample cleared in time for the soundtrack and movie

Yet, when it saw the light, it bombed HARD.

That’s not Christina Aguilera. I highly recommend prescription glasses.
