Is there any hype left for GUTS?

Featured Replies

I haven’t heard anything about Olivia in weeks, amid the summer of Barbie and scandals like Ariana’s cheating.

Turns out her album comes out in a month. It feels like the era has no hype with the GP and that she’s being overshadowed. What can the Bizaardvark entertainer do to reignite interest in her highly pivotal sophomore album?

The fact that this thread by the OP was created speaks volumes that "GUTS" album release is on their mind

I think what seems to be impacting this era for her is that it doesn't have a narrative like Sour did, during the rollout for Sour everything with Joshua and Sabrina was very fresh in discussion and the era reacted to the events of that. Here there is no active narrative to exploit for promotion.

It is just "Hey this is my new music!" without anything else for people to latch on to. There isn't even a "new sound" or "new visuals" factor that they can lean into because everything just looks like a continuation of what Sour started.

If she doesn’t have a stadium pop rock song like HTE, she’s over

The only way she can save the era is by ruthlessly trashing Taylor in her next single which would generate a lot of public interest

switch it up....cause so far everything is giving Sour 2.0

She always gave me Meghan Trainor 2.0. Huge debut era with a sophomore slump that leads into irrelevance. But she's burning out because she's a one-trick pony, unlike Meghan who tried too much of an image shift and lost the soccer moms.

Like, it's impressive. No one cares for her as a celebrity. It just seemed like SOUR smashed just because of the controversy and all the people involved in it. People love drama. The same thing happened recently with Flowers. Loved the relationship drama, and then no one cared about the album as a whole.

folklore still excelled at having a narrative behind it though, surprise release, her entering a more fictional artsy phase, people ate it up!

I'm sure there is, but I still think Vampire would've had more impact if it were released in the Fall

Folklore,  Evermore and Midnights all super successful without any relationship controversy

The biggest hit Anti Hero is about her and nobody else.

Fearless album had no relationship controversy :giraffe: either. The men she wrote about were unknown to everyone , it was about her again

true....i mean that's one of the things this olivia era is missing

The way that ATRLers are so eager to see Gen Z pop girls flop will forever be weird. This is the exact same treatment that Billie got during the HTE era before HTE the song made everyone switch :toofunny2:

anyway, GUTS has already sold over 100k units in the US, and it’ll increase throughout the month. These aren’t fad numbers :deadbanana4:

Thanks god, I hated how exploitative Sour was. I hate when pop stars put their men's business in the music

Generally speaking, I really don't understand how ATRL will always complain about the industry being male dominated and in the same breath be celebrating even the idea of an underperformance of any female artist that isn't their fave.

I always found it interesting how SOUR was a legitimate smasha but Olivia’s celebrity failed to make the same impact. In the past your music being far bigger than your celebrity worked and could be argued as a good thing, but in the social media Gen-Z era that doesn’t work for more than one album. Nowadays, if people don’t care for a singer, then why would they care for what they’re going to be saying on their album?

She needs some type of controversy quick. Beef Jenna Ortega. Make a squad with Millie Bobby Brown. Date Noah Beck. Just do SOMETHING that gets the GP talking and perched to tune in.

It’s because she waited too long and came back with a sour rehash

We need the snippets! That would make hype as long as music is good

There is NO hype for her album. I'm sure it'll have a good first week but tumble after that. Her debut single is going to have more weeks at #1 than her lead single has in the top 10 :rip:

Random but why does Olivia kind of look like Jodi Arias?
